  • Great Loaf Pan

    I have been experimenting with baking gluten free sandwich bread in 8 x 4 in loaf pans for several months. After realizing that the outward slant of the pan sides may contribute to the really short loaf height, I figured that a pullman-type loaf pan would probably create a taller loaf. The only problem was that I did not want to spend that much money on a loaf pan at the moment. Instead, I purchased the Norpro Non-Stick bread pan as an alternative. My first thought when I removed the pan from the box was that it was smaller (thinner) than I had expected. After baking a loaf of bread, I realized that the size of the pan was perfect!! The day I used the pan, I decided to experiment with my bread recipe, [unexpectedly] creating a much larger than expected loaf of sourdough bread. The dough spilled over the sides of the pan while baking (oops), and I just knew that I would have a hard time getting removing the bread after it stuck to the outside of the pan (picture included). Boy, was I wrong!! The entire loaf slipped out of the pan with no problem at all--even the overflowing bread that I was sure would be stuck to the outside of the pan. This pan produced a loaf of bread much taller than those baked in my other loaf pans, exactly what I was hoping for!! This loaf pan has my seal of approval and I will definitely be purchasing another one pretty soon!

  • Makes a perfect loaf!

    I stopped buying store-bought bread about a month ago, and we eat home-baked bread exclusively now. It was a bit of a learning curve! Especially trying to find a good loaf size/shape. The recipe I use says it makes two small loaves, or one large loaf. First, I used a regular bread pan and divided my dough into two loaves. Which came out to be rather short and fat. Next, I used the full batch of dough to make one loaf in a regular bread pan. That is some BIG bread! The slices were too wide and tall to fit into a standard toaster or a sandwich-size ziplock. Back to the drawing board. I contemplated reducing my recipe by 25% in hopes of making a more normal shaped loaf, but that still wouldn't take care of the width of the bread.

    I started looking online for a narrow bread pan, and this is what I found. I've used it for two weeks in a row now (I bake a loaf every Sunday) and it makes the perfect size loaf. I use the full batch of dough, and roll it to the length of the pan before the second rise. The loaf comes out perfect! It is about the size and shape of a standard sandwich loaf you get from the grocery store.

    TL;DR Version: Makes a loaf about the size of a standard sandwich loaf from the grocery store :) The nonstick coating is also pretty nice, I had no problems with the dough sticking.

  • Great sandwich-loaf bread pan!

    I love this pan because it makes your traditional-sized loaf of bread. I've started grinding my own wheat to make bread and this pan is the perfect size for my 2-pound recipe. I lightly butter the inside and the bread falls right out. The pan is very easy to clean as well. Sometimes I just wipe it out since really all there might be left on the inside is a bit of flour. You won't be disappointed with this pan!

    These are my favorite loaf pans. Frankly, I've found nearly all other pans to be inferior to these for various reasons, and I've no desire now to use anything other than these. Although they are narrower than most others, I'm fine with that. Being somewhat, made of dark carbon steel, they heat well and consistently. I've had no need to grease them as they have always released the loaves without a hitch. I bake sourdough breads and sometimes this includes, for me, raisin bread. The recipe I use for that has higher amounts of sugar and butter and still, no sticking. The pans can usually be simply wiped out with a dry towel, but some breads (like raisin bread) can require a quick rinse with hot water and toweled dry. Just a modicum of soap in water is occasionally beneficial. The steel is perhaps thinner than some others, but the fact that the steel has a 'dimpled' texture pressed into it, and the top edge has a thick steel wire rolled into it make the pans strong and light. I've not had any rust issues at all as they dry easily and I do not put them away wet. The 8 inch pans which I use most often are very handy, storing easily in the smallest of kitchens, and make a small looking ,but attractive (16-22 oz). loaves which fit nicely in our small freeze. I also love using the 10 inch pans for loaves in the 30 ounce range. There is a process by which the steel surface of these pans are made 'non-stick' and I've done some reading on it, Let me simply say that I'm OK with it and I would not use teflon,. Please, forgive me for having no desire to get into that discussion here. Update 11/1/17 - Sometimes I use nonstick spray on pan for non-fat, sourdough breads.

  • Best little pans ever!

    I bought three of these pans a year ago and made pumpkin bread in them at Christmas for gifts. The loaves were perfectly cooked and browned. My Mom was so impressed that she wants some so I ordered four from Amazon.com for her today. She is a master bread maker and said these pans made the best small loaves of bread she has ever seen. They are very easy to clean and they are just heavy enough for even cooking.
