بواسطة The USA Shopping Center في 07 January 2017

I am a computer programmer. So I type a lot of code mostly Java. (Update: C#)
This is an absolutely great invention. I just can't say how much I love it. The buttons are responsive. The design is great and it looks like a rocket.
It's been around a week that I've been using it. The first days typing on it was as hard as hell. I wanted to die. But now after a week I can type even faster than my previous keyboard. Now when I use my laptop keyboard I feel my hands are on a kid's toy. LOL. Now typing on my older keyboard is as hard as typing and programming on an IPad. I still need more practice for using control, shift, alt and Window buttons. I'm sure after a month I'll master the whole keyboard. Still didn't have time to use keyboards Micro functions. I'll update my review if find them helpful.

  • As good as I hoped it to be.
    بواسطة S. Adkins في 28 November 2017

I had looked at this keyboard for years. I have always preferred a split/ergonomic keyboard but I also prefer mechanical key switches. I've tried most of the ergonomic keyboards, MS 4000 (good, but too large in size and terrible dome keyyswitches) and it's predecessors, the newer Sculpt model (good basic design, keys don't last and some stupid choices with the Function and arrow keys), and so on...

So, I finally bit the bullet and figured it was time to try this, and it is pretty awesome. But be prepared for a "ramp-up" period. As day one, you'll wonder if you actually even know how to type. At least that was my experience. Just totally foreign even though is mostly standard QWERTY layout (which is also configurable if you're one of those weirdos). This keyboard offers no sympathy for your bad habits. Its not the ergonomic split, but also the key arrangement is not offset/shifted like you have likely be used to as well as the space between the keys is minimal. As well as a few keys which are now relocated to the thumb area.

But, there is good news - a) you'll get used to it fairly quickly. b) you can remap every key as you see fit.

I took the opportunity to remap several keys right off the start, so I swapped Space/Enter keys, moved the command/option and control keys elsewhere in the thumb area and so on.

So yeah, it really is as good as I've heard. Just know that it is going to require work on your part to become proficient with it, but as soon as you do the payoff Is worth it.

  • Excellent Keyboard!
بواسطة Brandon في 21 March 2017

This keyboard is excellent. I suffer from tingling wrists and thumb joints (I am a mobile developer and am on a keyboard for at least 8 hours a day, sometimes up to 16). After a day on this keyboard I had no more tingling or pain. As soon as I return to older keyboards, the pain is back. The learning curve is definitely there, and I still haven't gotten up to my full speed of typing after a few weeks. Coding is the hardest, as you use keys you won't use in normal typing and they are not really anywhere close to where they were on my old keyboard. Remapping on this keyboard is really easy though, so you can customize it to your needs. I've already remapped the arrow keys to make highlighting more intuitive for me. The only thing I don't love about this keyboard is the price, as I'd like to have one at my house but just don't want to spend $600+ on keyboards within a month, so that'll have to wait.

  • 10 years of love
    بواسطة Nicholas S. في 30 November 2017

I upgraded to the KB600 this year after a cat knocked over a cup of coffee into the KB500. The KB500 did not have the cherry ml switch in the function keys. This is number 3 for me. I have used the first two keyboard for 20,000 hours, yep more then 10 years. I have warn the plastic under palm rests on the kb500 smooth after ~4 years.

I upgraded to the KB600 this year after a cat knocked over a cup of coffee into the KB500. The KB500 did not have the cherry ml switch in the function keys. That alone was worth the upgrade.
The KB500 worked great until windows 7. Kinesis had a crap usb hub and ps2 converter in the KB500 that did not work with windows 7. They had a 25 dollar fix, but I had to do the work. I replaced the cable for the ps2 to usb and my own hub. It's nice to have the mouse adapter in the keyboard.
note: I will be adding a usb hub to the KB600.

As a side note, I have washed and cleaned the switches, and all 3 keyboards are still in use.

Kinesis: please add a row of keys on the inside near 6yhn and 5tgb, and please add Bluetooth support.

  • This is a fantastic upgrade to the Advantage1 keyboard.
بواسطة Chad في 03 November 2016

I am a computer programmer and spend all day with a keyboard and mouse. Many years ago I started to experience RSI symptoms which caused me two look into keyboards more closely.

Most keyboards that come with computers are junk. After a few months, while you can press keys easily with direct up and down motion, if you try to press a key from an oblique angle it can be very stiff. The keys you reach to press with your outer fingers are the worst since you are often coming at them from an angle. If you don't pay attention, you will find yourself slamming keys with your pinkie finger -- hello RSI.

This keyboard truly made my RSI symptoms go away. The combination of the conjured key wells (which reduce oblique key pressing and reaching), and the light weight key springs is wonderful. I've seen similar results with my coworkers who switched.

This version 2 keyboard has upgraded internals. Previous issues with the modifier keys being occasionally stuck down on Macs are gone completely. I had trouble remapping keys initially, but Kinesis phone support was helpful and corrected the issue (which affected some of the initial batch of these keyboards). I love it.

    Tips:
    - Don't be afraid to remap keys. For example, I moved Esc to Caps Lock, and Command to End. Be creative and try to place useful keys under strong fingers or thumbs.
    - Take a good look at your mouse too. If you have bad RSI, try switching mice or use a trackball. Avoid using the mouse the scroll wheel; it's hard on your middle finger. I installed a utility that scrolls when I move the mouse pointer and hold down the Ctrl key.
    - Try to learn the Dvorak layout. It's probably not better, or faster, but you will type very slowly while learning and this will give your hands time to heal :) Seriously, it does reduce reaching for keys since it puts common letters under your powerful center row fingers.

    Price:
If you are a working professional, there is no excuse not to work with the best tools. And if you are experiencing RSI symptoms, which threaten your ability to work, you are a fool if you let the steep price stop you.
