  • Nice looking mailbox that will NOT protect your mail. A seriously flawed gem.
By Alex Harper on 17 September 2014

Update: Since my original review, this mailbox has been broken into three more times. Each time I repair it to original condition, and it gets broken into again and again. I have since installed a motion detector light and a security camera. I am considering a Fort Knox, or welding an additional locking mechanism onto this box. Seriously, this box barely slows a thief down if he has a screwdriver with him.
    ----------

Complete security failure. My neighbor and I each bought one of these after we were the victims of a snatch-and-run theft of mail from our old fashioned non-locking mailboxes. We were initially impressed with the build quality, fit and finish. After we removed our old mailboxes and installed these, we were confident our mail was relatively safe. Less than two weeks after they were mounted in place... Disaster. This morning, both our mailboxes were pried open. A quick inspection revealed a screwdriver was used to quickly and easily pop each of our boxes open. The locking hasps were bent in half and the doors were hanging wide open. I drove around our neighborhood, as several other neighbors have these as well (which is why I bought mine). Every single Oasis Jr. In the neighborhood was broken open. Old fashioned non-locking boxes were hanging open, too. Other better designed mailboxes, such as a few Fort Knox M1-LT (the cheapest one they make) were completely unmolested. So we were no better off than we were with our old fashioned mailbox. On further reflection, it is pretty easy to see how easy it was for the thieves. A foam seal keeps water out around the door, but also creates a soft gap for a flat blade to be pushed in and pried. Too late to return mine, but my neighbor still can. Lucky her. If you are at all concerned about security, this is not the mailbox for you. Not by a long shot. This is a serious and (in retrospect) obvious design flaw. The elegant design and attractive finish must look very enticing to a thief. Now I know.

  • Stopped people from using my adress for illegal activity
By ben on 08 June 2019

We had some individuals using our address to obtain government documents ( Drivers licenses, Government IDs. Social Security Cards) They would apply for these documents and have them sent to our address then knock on our door and ask if we mistakenly received them. We had sent them back to the originating sender since we had no idea who the subjects were and they did not live at our address. For weeks they would come and check our mailbox without our permission. We caught them numerous times on our security cams. We kept having mail come up missing since they grab everything in the box and run. We bought this locking mailbox and attached to an 8' 4x6" post with 300lbs of concrete to secure it and the problem was solved. The first time they looked in it and saw that they could not reach the mail anymore they stopped using our address. We reported them to Law Enforcement and ICE and they packed up an moved. If you want to secure your mail and identity the I highly recommend this mailbox. It is nice looking and worth every dollar. Our neighbors have all comment that would like to have one as well. It can also accept small packages.

  • Wonderful product. Easy to install
By David Dixon on 02 February 2016

Wonderful product. Easy to install. Lovely minimalist functional design. Would purchase again if we lived where folks did not know how to quickly break into. (insert sad face here). Next time will install large bladders of urine just to both inside edges of the locking door so when prybar is inserted...well, you know. As strong as it can be...we have seven of these in our cluster and someone used the same technique on all units (see photos). (Sigh)

  • Not really big enough for packages; Lock is tempermental; otherwise ok
    By T. Olson on 28 January 2018

I wasn't expecting this box to hold large packages, but was surprised to see the door would not accommodate even medium size boxes. Padded envelopes and the small "flat rate" priority mail boxes from the post office will fit fine - anything larger may not.

Also disappointed in the quality of the cylinder cam lock - it's cheap and puts up a struggle when trying to insert the flat key. Opening the lock becomes a test of patience. Two options suggested: 1) replace with a better cam lock, ideally with the tubular style keys like this: FJM Security 2400AS-KD Tubular Cam Lock with 5/8" Cylinder OR, if you don't need a locking mailbox, use JR Products 00115 Deluxe Compartment Thumb Lock - 5/8". Replacing the existing lock takes less than 5 minutes with a screw driver and crescent wrench to loosen the nut. We chose the Thumb lock because we're too lazy to carry a key with us and unlock the mailbox everyday.

Overall it's a sturdy mailbox and we're fine with it. Given the amount of online ordering we do, we should have considered the larger pedestal-style mailboxes that can accept and hold larger boxes in the bottom.

  • Sturdy and easy to mount
    By John D on 27 August 2010

Bought this with the 4" square Architectural Mailboxes post, which works perfectly with this box.

Fit and finish is really nice. No rough surfaces or sharp edges, and the paint job looks great. It feels quite sturdy, even the flag.

My only suggestion for an improvement is to replace the hex bolts used to secure the box with carriage bolts, and add lock washers to the installation. The included hex bolts would be trivial for a thief to detach in seconds, making this box a tempting target for thieves or practical jokers.

I took one star off five because of the hex bolts, and because the post sold with it had a top plate that's not at exactly 90 degrees from the post. So though we set our post dead vertical on both axes, the box sits a tiny bit off level. You can't see it though, it takes a level to spot. A good solution is to set the post, WITH the mailbox attached, and level the box rather than the post.

I set the post in 3 cf of concrete in a 12" wide hole, 28" deep, and it is dead stable.

    Would buy and recommend again.

EDIT: Over a year later, I must say that the finish still looks like new, and the box works very well. No rust, no lock problems. The mail is secure and I would still recommend this fully.

EDIT: This item is now over three years old, and I am still 100% happy with it. No rust, no lock issues, no problems.

EDIT: This item is now over four years old, and I am still 100% happy. No issues.
