  • Wow, so far, better than expected.
By Tradbow on 21 February 2017

so far so good, only had them for a week. been wearing them everyday since I got them expecting a break in period. none needed. they feel great. I personally like 400g boots because I live in the south, and anything more is overkill. the footbed inserts are awesome. the groves really do help ciculate air. my feet dont get soaked from sweat like other 400g boots i own. the weight is an expected with this much leather on them. I was skeptical to buy these boots becuase I know Ariat as a western boot company, but these look well made, and have exceeded my expectations so far. the sizing on these boots are as expected, and I bought the 2E's fit heavy wool socks for when Im still hunting. Im very happy with these boots so far. The only thing that I "think" I wish these had was a more aggressive sole. but I havent used these yest in rocky or mountain terrain with any inclines so Ill save that for a follow up after I use them in that type of environment.

  • Comfort . . . meh. Manufacturing . . . Fail!
    By B*Rex on 28 January 2018

Although these are marketed as hunting boots, I purchased them for working. I work in the Mpls/St Paul area for a tree company. I was looking for a comfortable boot with a light insulation and for them to be water proof. I picked this boot because it had those features, plus the protective rubber where the boot leather meets the sole. I figured the rubber barrier would help protect the leather against the constant rubbing against tree debris. The boot fits as expected with my typical size and at first was comfortable. About 3 weeks into the break-in, the boots developed creases where the leather meets the synthetic piece of the boot upper. The creases dug into my ankles and were extremely uncomfortable. Now, after approximately 2 months of wear, the uncomfortable digging is still present, but far less. I'm hoping it eventually goes away completely. The light insulation works as expected and it's fine. Same with the water proof barrier. I have not worn, or owned, the boots long enough to determine whether or not the protective rubber barrier actually helps. What I can say is that after about a month of wear, the rubber started to come away from the leather. I'm not naive enough to assume this would stay intact for the life of the boot, but I had hoped for longer than a month. Pockets have been created where the rubber has come away from the leather. These pockets hold water (on days nice enough to incur snow melt) and have helped to increase the speed at which the rubber is peeling from the leather. If I had the chance to do it again, I would purchase an all leather boot, and skip the rubber protective piece. I have rated these 2 stars. I don't believe there are many products, if any, worthy of a 5 or a 1. That said, 3 is average . . . The comfort issue may relieve itself, but I can't get past a $180 boot coming apart after approximately a month of wear. I would not recommend these boots . . . At least not for heavy usage.

  • Fine for upland hunting
By Paul McFeaters on 18 December 2017

UPDATE: Recently wore my Ariat boots for a hike in 5 inches of snow and single digit (F) temperature that lasted a couple of hours. My feet were warm and dry. I've never had leather boots before that kept me comfortable in those conditions for that long. Very happy with this purchase!

Bought these boots for upland hunting. After about a 10 mile break-in period, we went hunting for a solid week in relatively level terrain with lots of wet soil. Fortunately the boots never leaked even when walking through standing water and were comfortably light on my feet. They are a little bit wide for my foot but heavy weight socks made for a perfect fit.

Overall, I believe they will serve well in the role. I really like the type of laces which makes for a firm, non-sliding grip on them. The leather pull-up loop on the back is beefy and big enough to get a finger in. If there could be one improvement, that would be to replace the set of lace 'hooks' with speed lacing eyelets.

  • Wierd Sizing
By MFA on 22 October 2019

This seemed like a great deal on a leather, insulated boot with a Goretex liner. Unfortunately the sizing is wonky. I normally wear a size 11 (Asolo boots, New Balance shoes) so that's what I ordered first. It was big, so I tried a 10.5, which was small... so much so, I could hardly get my foot into the opening. Next I tried a 10.5 wide, which was easier to get on but was simply too wide. In the end I kept the 11, but had to *add* a small insole to the stock one to make them fit more like an 11.

  • Nice Boots not great
By Phillip Alan Ramirez on 14 February 2017

They fit great. I have used them in the snow abot 4 times and they are warm and dry.
I have worn them about 10 times 5 in the snow and 5 hikes/hunting for about 6 - 10 hours they are really comfortable and I Like Ariat alot but this last time the damp weeds I was walking through soaked them through in about 30 mins. IT WAS MISERABLE AND I'M REALLY DISAPPOINTED!
