  • Just the Time--But That's What Watches are Really for
By Jeffrey N. Fritz on 29 July 2017

There is nothing fancy about the Armitron Adventure Men's AD/1006BKBKBK Watch. It has no chronograph, no second time zone, no timer, no stop watch. There isn't even a date function. All you get from this watch is the time--but the time is presented in large, easily readable numbers. The hours are white letters on a black background and they are reasonably large type. It doesn't get much more readable than this even for my old, tired eyes.

If you love bells and whistles in a watch, this watch won't please you. However, if all you need to know is the time, this is your watch. After all, despite all the extra goodies that can be tossed into the design of a watch, isn't it primarily about telling the time? And that's what the Armitron Adventure Men's AD/1006BKBKBK Watch does--it simply and clearly tells you the time.

On the not so great side are the tiny instruction booklet and the cheap nylon watch band. I must prefer genuine leather bands, but then I am beginning to leave my simple premise of the last paragraph. As for a manual, I'd love to see Armitron do better here, but honestly, who really needs a manual with a watch this simple and straightforward?

The watch was running in box. I know that watches have batteries can last for years. However, I prefer to start the battery draining when I receive the watch--not when the watch was manufactured and boxed. Other than these concerns I find that I like this watch very much. I suspect that the Armitron Adventure Men's AD/1006BKBKBK Watch will often be on my wrist.

  • Choose Your Own Adventure With Armitron
By Michael P Naughton on 09 August 2017

Armitron is about adventure according to their branding. This is my first Armitron and I was not quite sure what type of adventure I was in for, so I decided to unbox this timepiece and test it out in the city of Los Angeles where I reside.

The first characteristic of this watch I noted is that it is incredibly lightweight on your wrist. The nylon band is thin and as light as paper and the case is equally light to the extent that you might even forget you’re wearing it… until you check the time.

    SOLAR SAVES MONEY

I like that the watch is solar powered and carries a four month charge. When it stops running, give it some sunshine or expose it to a light source and you’re back in business. You won’t be replacing batteries with this watch. In Los Angeles, I could run out of money, but never out of sun.

Thus, style is antithetic to today’s smartwatch. It is basic and doesn’t do anything other than tell time. It won’t wake you up or tell you what month or day it is. It simply sticks to the essentials and accurately renders time.

I guess my story is simple like this watch. I live in the big city of LA where you have to “watch” your back. I’ve got other smartwatchs, smartphones and technology to do the complex thinking, the Armitron Adventure turns the clock back to basics in the hustle of the city where life gets complicated, and that’s fine by me for my liking.

Note: This watch is water resistant. There is a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects.

  • Stylish and light on the wrist
By JEDrury on 25 July 2017

This attractive black mens’ Armitron watch, feather light on the wrist, has an open un-clutttered face set off with white Arabic numerals, a light green second hand on a soft textured black diamond background. The adjustable black band with silver glasp and grommets will fit a man's wrist. Its silver bezel ringed in the same soft green pulls once for time setting; there is no day or date window. The watch sits flat to the wrist and does not protrude like some mens’ watches.

  • Not really a fan of the design decisions
    By 🌈 KT on 02 August 2017

I'm not a big fan of this watch, I'm afraid. It seems like old technology with a new paint job. The "luminous dial" is just glow in the dark stuff, and you have to charge it pretty solidly to get to last any decent amount of time.

I love the matte black case finish, and the numbers are decent enough size for us old folks to read. The band is pretty light, though the watch itself is fairly large. Still, overall it doesn't feel on the heavier side.

There's no pic of the band, and it's an older style with silver grommets, so I took a pic (sorry about the cat hair on it). It's an older style that I think people should see before making a decision.

One thing I'll mention is that the back is secured with screws and my husband says he can feel them and doesn't like that. It also came running, unlike other new watches we've gotten, so no telling how much battery has been used up in a warehouse.

  • Basic Timepiece
    By K. R. on 28 July 2017

Not really my kind of watch. The back is attached with screws. The watchband is a really thin light-weight nylon strap - with metal grommets. The face of the watch is fairly attractive - but that doesn't make up for how inexpensive this watch feels. There are some glow-in-the-dark elements - The numbers and the minute & hour hands. I will admit to having fairly small wrists (for a guy) and the watchband just barely fits me. This is a very light-weight watch.

I would probably recommend this watch for a teen or tween - maybe as a first watch. But for an adult, I would probably look at one of Armitron's other watches.
