  • STAY AWAY! Columbia turned these into junk!!
    By B. Edwards on 27 September 2018

I had the Montrail Molokai II before these and they were AMAZING!! Columbia took over them and turned them into JUNK. I wore my IIs for well over a year with a good bit of walking time in them. The bottoms of the shoes still looked amazing and had a lot of life. The inside though had finally started to flatten out. The bottom was a far better design on them. On the new IIIs, the bottom has areas of a MUCH softer foam type rubber. There was significant wear before even 2 months. I ordered this pair on May 20th and they are SHOT!! The bottom is severly worn, that inside has gotten much flatter, and they are overall very uncomfortable now!

Columbia took a phenomenally designed shoe and turned it into utter junk. So disappointed in the quality of this shoe now. I have been looking all over the net to find more pairs of the IIs to no avail.

  • HORRIBLE! Columbia ruined a great design!
By MOVMTNS on 04 August 2018

I loved the older models of Montrails, but this new model feels like plastic, and fits large. I've worn the Montrails for the past 10 years. 2 pairs per year, but now Columbia owns Montrail and has definitely changed the design and materials. Now they feel cheap, like a $5 pair of walmart flip flops. Since i wore them for a week to give them a chance I can't return them. I won't buy these any longer. I'm gonna have to find another style and company, because these are horrible!

  • If you loved Montrail before Columbia took over you might not like it as much now.
By CGMO Scott on 28 May 2019

I've had Montrail recovery flips for many years - this is probably my 5th pair. Those produced by Montrail lasted several years each. My most recent pair was Columbia produced and a strap broke off after a little over one year of use (and given the climate here that means that they were only worn for about six months for an average of 1-2 hours per day).

Given my previous satisfaction with this brand I decided I would give it another try. This pair doesn't seem to have the arch support of the previous generations of recovery flips. Also, the thong portion is a little scratchy (for lack of a better word) and made my feet sore even though the straps fall is the same area as my previous Montrails that I could wear all day comfortably. Unless I find out that they have returned to previous manufacturing methods I doubt if I'll try these again.

  • This is my first pair since Columbia bought Montrail and my favorites are even better.
By Brad on 22 February 2019

I've worn these both as house shoes and sandals for the last several years. Because of past plantar fasciitis issues, I really needed something with arch support and these have it in spades. So I don't take a step in the house without them on my feet. This is probably my 5th or 6th pair and there are a few changes since they put the Columbia brand on them—all positive. It seems like they are built stronger with more structure and the the surface feels like it's going to hold up better. Overall, I couldn't be happier. And I haven't had plantar fasciitis once since I started wearing them.

  • Hesitant but turned out OK
By Mark Strickland on 08 August 2019

I had an older pair of Montrail Molokai sandals that I really liked. I bought them when I had a case of plantar fasciitis and they helped but were not a cure. I got the plantar fasciitis under control with a change in some prescription medicine but I continued to wear the sandals because they felt so good.

After a number of years they just plain started to wear out and I wanted to get a new pair. It was disappointing that the company was sold to Columbia but I thought maybe they would be OK. I have had good luck with 2 Columbia winter jackets that I like. I read lots of Amazon reviews and others and finally decided to take a chance and I have been pleased.

For me they seem to fit in a similar manner but the sole construction is somewhat different. Not better or worse but just a different material and tread design. They do have the "heat in oven" feature to mold them to your feet. That process did not have a dramatic effect on forming the fit with my feet but it did help. I think the older Montrail's molded a bit better. I wore the sandals for a few hours before I molded them and even without this fitting step they were comfortable.

The thong between the toes looks similar to the old Montrail's and seems to be as comfortable to me. The thongs in the old shoes were just about warn though so I cannot exactly compare them to the new shoes in terms of exact construction.

For me I am pleased but they are not an exact duplicate of the old shoes and maybe that is the source of some of the reviews here.

Over all I have given these 5 stars because they seem to be good shoes and maybe the soles will be a bit more durable than the sole design of the old Montrail's.
