  • Mixed feelings on these pants but a great value if they fit
    By Karalane W. on 28 July 2016

I'm a big fan of Columbia clothing for long-lasting outdoor gear at a decent price. But, boy, it can get frustrating getting a proper fit, because it varies so much from style to style and item to item. So I couldn't resist these pants at the bargain price and bought the blue and the sage in size 10s & 12s (I'm 5'4" and wear size 10 in pants & jeans). I tried on the 10 first and felt they fit properly in the waist and length, but they did feel a little "off" in the crotch and snug in the thigh. Then I noticed there was a difference in the cut between both colors. The sage was snugger and about half an inch longer in the inseam. So I reordered them, and once again it feels like each one fits a little different - I think they might be seconds? Anyway, they're still a great value and it is hard to find the short length, so I'll keep the better-fitting of the two pair and send the other 2 back. I'll just use them for canoeing or hiking on groomed trails where it won't matter if they're a little snug in the legs.
8/21/16 sizing update- I have now ordered all 4 colors in 10 short. The snuggest fit is Cypress (green), particularly around the thigh. Nocturnal (blue) fits as expected at the waist, just a tiny bit snug at the thigh. Lion (chamois beige) and Pulse (gray) fit slightly large in the waist and average in the thigh.

  • Solid crossover pants. Sizing is off. More straight-leg than pictured.
By OXS on 30 September 2016

I like these pants a lot! The material is lightweight and stain-resistant, although there is no stretch to the fabric and limited flex to the design. The Amazon pictures are slightly misleading, as the cut is very slender in the thigh and leg; they're more of a skinny straight-leg than I'd hoped. Note the darts at the knee to make the legs more fitted.

The sizing does seem a bit odd - based on my measurements, Columbia's size chart puts me in a 6. I bought the 4R in these and found them to be a bit roomy. I normally wear a 2-4 or XS-S, depending on brand. For referencexample, I'm 5'5", and at the time of these pictures, my waist measures 27" and my hips 37.5", with a 31" inseam. The 4R's waistband and thighs fit comfortably snug, but these pants are oddly roomy in the front of the crotch. The zipper doesn't lay flat, which is a bit annoying. I tried on a size 2R as well - I could fit into them, surprisingly, but the waist and thighs were too snug for my taste.

Overall: well-designed, sturdy pants that cross over well from hiking to casual streetwear. Sizing is a crapshoot, typical of any women's clothing. Good luck!

  • The sizing is on the roomy side. I'm 5'6" ...
By Anonymous on 04 April 2016

The sizing is on the roomy side. I'm 5'6" and 147 lbs. I carry most of my weight in the waist rather than the hips and legs. I ordered a size 10 and it was definitely generous though not falling down and stretched a bit more after wear. The fabric is very, very lightweight. These pants would probably be okay for everyday wear, or for hiking on well established trails, but are not durable enough for more extreme recreational activity. I bought these pants for rock climbing to replace a cheap pair of pants I bought at Old Navy but ended up with holes in them. For $60, I expected something more durable.

  • Amazing Pants!
By Melayia on 13 July 2016

These are wonderful pants! I wore them on a trip to Alaska in June when the weather was rather cool and very windy. Although these pants are extremely lightweight, they still somehow managed to keep me warm (enough). I have also worn them in sweltering 100 degree humid midwest weather, and they kept me cool and dry. I love that they transform into capris in an instant as well! In my opinion, Columbia offers the best UPF rated clothing. The clothes keep you protected from the elements, dry in an instant and travel impeccably. For sizing purposes, I am 5'5", 115 lbs and a size 4 regular fit perfectly.

  • new fave but variable sizing
By meadows on 26 May 2017

OK so these are really strange, but I have fallen in love with them. The challenge is that each color seems to fit differently. The two gray colors are the loosest fitting, both in capri and in the pant. Next I am going to try the lion. I found both cypress and pond to be way too tight in the legs, and I am a small person, tree trunk figure around 112 pounds. I am also going to try the pond again in a larger size. I am also going to try the pond again in a larger size (going from 2 to 4). I am a 31 inch inseam and needed the short, the regular was too long. The fabric is so featherweight, I don't expect that it would hold up under serious fieldwork, but it is delightful to wear all day in less strenuous circumstances. It's sort of stretchy, but not overly. Nothing like the Saturday trail pants which are extremely stretchy, but these are cooler in humidity. The pockets are "real", spacious compared to so many women's pants. The styling is definitely casual, whenever there's a hammer loop you have to figure…
