You've scrutinized every last detail on your feathery-light 29er for an upcoming XC race, so you can hopefully land atop the podium. Give yourself an advantage in rolling speed, but without compromising much in the way of grip on smooth-buffed courses with the Continental Cross King 29in Tire. This fast-rolling tire is primarily intended for cross-country riding and racing scenarios, yet it's also a great choice for many trail riders seeking a rear tire that's quick to accelerate out of corners and rolls with minimal resistance over smoother terrain. In these trail riding scenarios, many riders choose to pair a Cross King tire in the rear with a burlier Mountain or Trail King up front for a bit more traction and support across the rough stuff. The Cross King enjoys the tacky grip and minimal rolling resistance afforded by its BlackChili compound, which balances high levels of traction with fast-rolling speed--making it an ideal compound for cross-country racing and trail usage as a rear tire. It's reinforced from slits and punctures with Continental's Protection layer, giving you peace of mind while riding hard and fast across rugged terrain, such as rocks and roots. Additionally, it's tubeless-ready, so you can significantly lower tire pressures to gain higher levels of traction and bump-smoothing support.

  • Light, no holes yet, sealed easy, good tire
By Dustin Saiger on 28 October 2018

I live in FL and was on the fence as to what I should get because riding here is very weird. Both Sandy, roots, mud, and hard packed. So a lot of everything. So far I went from Kenda Honey Badger Sports with tubes. To these in a same size but tubeless. Wow what a difference. Handles better, brakes faster, and acceleration is better. I'm extremely surprised by how great these are. I've been beating on them for 2 months now on a hard tail with me at 225lbs. I hit drops and ok sized jumps and they take the abuse. Besides better pedals. These are the best mod I have done.

  • Air Leakage In Tire Wall
By Heather on 09 October 2018

Great tire with impeccable traction and low-rolling resistance but,... now having used this tire on multiple occasions I have always been stumped why I would come out to a completely flat tire. I have had this tire re-mounted multiple times thinking it was improperly seated or lack of bead, wrong. Washing the tire with soapy water today instantly around the entire tire wall, both sides, were oozing with bubbles. I would recommend this tire, think I just received a defective one.

  • Upgrade the tires before you decide to not like a bike
By Cameron Walker on 01 May 2019

Best upgrade I’ve done so far.

Going from a 2.1” tire to these 2.4” tires was a major improvement to downhill stability, ability to pedal uphill in deep sand, and overall comfort.

Getting the bead to completely seat was a little difficult at first, but a little bit of shock oil all the way around both sides made it super fast and even all the way around. These tires are a little sticky at first.

My wheels are 19mm wide and I don’t have any issues with the tires so far. 2.4” is the max width I could go based on the chainstay width, and wheel width.

  • New tread for my Giant 2014 Trance 3
By trailshots on 05 February 2019

    2014 Trance 3 rims 27.5 19mm id
    Front Rockshox Sektor Silver
    Original tires Nobby Nic 27.5 x 2.25
    New tires
Conti Cross King 2.6 front Protection
Conti Cross King 2.3 back Protection
Mounting was easy, tools were used but really not needed. I used tv screen cleaner as a lubricant to seat.
I am using tubes, didn't want to try tubeless on these rims. May have worked the way they seated.
They look fantastic but no trail use yet. Will update after a few rides when trail dry.
I replaced the Nobby Nics Performance because I bit it bad twice loosing grip.

  • Excellent tires that can tank!
By Ham Planet on 05 July 2019

These tires are a HUGE upgrade from the Maxxis Rekon's I had on my Rocky Mountain. Those tires were light, soft, and were very quick, but just weren't right for what I was trying to use my bike for. They struggled for traction on the loose, messy trails here whenever I pushed my bike and spun hopelessly if I dropped the hammer.

These, on the other hand, are grip MACHINES. I've handled steep 17% grades covered in loose leaves, gravel, and mud, with little to no slipping. In fact, the only times I've managed to make these tires break loose is whenever I roll over a loose stick or slick rotten log, and I doubt even the most agressive of tires could adress that.

They're also dang near indestructible, and you can feel it. These tires are pretty stiff and feel like the pressure is much higher inside than it actually is. They're also heavy beasts, but when you're out on the trails, you really don't feel it. They are slow and have one of the highest rolling resistances among MTB tires.

But man, does that grip pay off.

TL;DR - If you want a beastly, near-bulletproof set of tires for mud, extremely loose soil, loam, or loose over hard conditions, and don't mins giving up weight and rolling resisitance, buy these now.
