  • Clarity of these strings are very good
    By Pioneer52 on 13 April 2017

Clarity of these strings are very good. I prefer a med gauge as I find they stay in tune longer than the light gauge. If your experienced you will have no problem with bends etc. All a matter of preference of course but if you are using light gauge I recommend giving these a try and I think you'll agree the tone is deeper and better.

One other note the 3rd string is always a bit tricky with banjos so if you use a regular bridge you'll find better intonation on these.

  • I don't like the tone
    By Kevin B. on 29 November 2019

Beware; each reviewer is reviewing the strings they purchased, which may or may not be the strings you are considering. This review is regarding "D'Addario EJ63i 12 - 36 Nickel Irish Tenor Banjo String". I don't like the tone of these, to my ear it's like nails on a chalkboard. It's difficult to describe the sound I dislike; it's sort of like stroking a comb with your thumb, a flanger like of noise. This isn't a subtle sound; it stands out clearly. The strings are very slack despite being a heavy gauge, so I don't like the feel either. I usually like D'Addario as a brand, so this was a surprise. I'd like to think I just got a bad batch of strings - is that possible!? btw - my banjo is a Gold Tone Cripple Creek.

  • ... beginer and dont know squat about what makes a good set of strings
By Clayton Earp on 27 August 2017

Im a beginer and dont know squat about what makes a good set of strings.
I can tell you they stay in tune not a ton of stretch. I only had to retune 2 times. After that they were good.

  • Not for C G D A tenor tuning
By Charles A. Vick on 05 May 2019

The high A string breaks, needs a much lighter gauge. These strings are suitable for Irish tuning D G B E( the top four strings of a guitar)
