  • Great Boot
By Isaac on 23 November 2014

So I recently damaged the upper on my Red Wing boot, which was disappointing since it was a good work boot. Rarely has a work boot or even a shoe lasted me so long. So I decided to pick up this Danner Boot. It looked good online and had some good reviews so I figured, if the shoe fit then I'de give it a try. So far (1 month in) I've been liking it as a work boot. I'm not crazy about the laces or the white sole, but I end up wearing shoes so long that soles get replaced by my shoe cobbler, and laces get replaced once they tear. Anyways, I have made a list of things that I do and don't like about this boot.

Things I like about this boot
    - Fitment. The boot fits really well, I'm an 11 1/2 and european 45 and this boot fits well even though Danner reports this boot to be a 46. My foot doesn't slide at all and I can work all day without blisters or hot feet or sliding around. The toe box is little larger than average, but I find it fine.
    - Color. I like the leather and the logo is subtle. One thing I hate is shoes that boast their logo all over the shoes. This one is a good looking work boot.
    - Sole. I like the non-marking sole and that it can be replaced easily.
    - Height. I like that I moved from a below ankle work boot to above ankle work-boot. I think I would prefer to go to a higher boot: see the list below why.
Weight. This boot weighs a decent amount, but I don't get tired thought the day. The first day was not a chore to move the weight around.

Things I don't like about this boot.
    - Break In Period. Most boots require a break in period of a couple days, to a month. I'm currently one month in and my feet still hurt at the end of the day from the shoe not giving in. This boot takes a long time to break in. I've been walking to lunch in these boots to try to break them in faster. Lexol has been smothered on them, but my friend told me he had to put Lexol on every three days to help it break in faster. I'm not a fan of the length of break in, but once they are broken in, I'm sure I'll love them. The harder the break in period, the longer the shoe should last.

My friend also told me that If I had purchased the 8-inch or taller boot, then it wouldn't be digging into my calf so bad. So I probably should have gone with the 8 inch or taller.

    - Tongue. Something is weird about the tongue of the shoe. The left tongue on my Danner won't stay up, it shifts to the left. The right tongue is the same way, it moves to the right. And my last pair of shoes didn't have this problem at all. It might be that the shoe isn't broken in yet, or that I got a bad batch, I'm not exactly too sure, but the problem is so minor that I won't knock any stars. We'll see in a couple more months.

So that's my opinion of this boot. Hope you found it helpful.

  • Ohhhh Danners, what happen? You started off strong...
    By OSPINA01 on 01 May 2017

Just got them today, l condition them up with some mink oil, let them sit in the sun, oil absorbed into the leather, laced them up, boots very comfortable, little stiff but break-in time isn't going to take long.

    EDIT:
Ok, it's 2 weeks now now, 3 coats of mink oil and a few session's of leather working around the rim of the top of the boot these are everything everybody has said theyll be. The leather is now soft, the sole is still a little stiff but that will get better. It did hurt the first few days. I did take a couple of days off from wearing them. As for fit, I wear a wide 13 and I got the 13M they fit snug.

    EDIT
Right foot has a popping as I step in the ball of the foot. Like adhesive is coming loose internally....... and I just passed the time to reurnt/replace I'm stuck with them

  • Comfortable. Assembled in the US
    By Bobby H. on 30 January 2019

Had to go a half size down from other boots. Surprised by the comfort. They outshine my redwings in that department and cost about $100 less. The only complaint is I don’t consider them made in the US. From my understanding the shell of the boot comes assembled and the people in Portland put the boots together. I’m sure this explains the $100 price difference between these and redwings, but I do not think old glory should adore these boots since their just assembled here.

  • Bad Boots
    By jonathan b on 17 January 2019

The boots have a terrible heel cup and toe cap that dig into the skin causing very painful cuts and blisters. I have worn them to work for 2 months as a carpenter and even though the leather and soles have broken in, the rigid (plastic?) parts of them cause me severe discomfort and pain. It is even worse when I need to kneel down and fully flex the boot. Also, the tongue of the boots are cut very poorly. They are too small, and don't stay in place at all. They just slide to the side and allow the metal lace hooks to dig into my socks and ankles. For the same money I prefer my Thorogoods much more.

  • Seem to be a good pair of boots so far....until they weren’t
By John on 12 January 2018

Seem to be a good pair of boots so far. They are a little snug in the toe box compared to my redwings of similar style. If they don’t open up a little as they break in they may need a trip to the cobbler to fix it.*****update****
After 6 months the liner in the heel tore and exposing the plastic support which had cracked. This cracked heel would cut you which made the boots unwearable. FYI Danner only warranties work boots for 6 months. This particular pair didn’t make it. My last pair of danners lasted long enough to have the soles replaced these didn’t make it long enough to even wear the tread down. They were very comfortable once they were broke in too bad they broke down soon after.
