  • I was pretty skeptical, as all of the other products that ...
By Michael Baggaley on 09 December 2015

So I went the rounds on other products before I settled on this simple solution that ultimately was the only one that met our need. The goal was to keep our 3 year old in our house. We were able to use doorknob covers for 2 of our external doors, but our patio door has a handle-type opener and couldn't accommodate a knob cover. The door also couldn't be converted to a knob due to the custom opener / deadbolt system that was installed.

Our problem was that the door is slightly offset from the wall and other products proved to be too bulky to allow the door to function after installation. I briefly gave up on finding a solution, but my son later escaped and had to be chased by my wife for several blocks before she was able to catch him. (The boy gives new meaning to the term "stinker") I went back to the drawing board and found this product. I was pretty skeptical, as all of the other products that I had tried were far more complex and much more expensive.

I was very pleased to find that the product worked great and installation was a 2 minute process. Now my son is safely contained to terrorize my wife in the comfort of our home and we no longer have to worry about him carrying committing acts of terrorism to the neighborhood at large. It has been several months and he hasn't gotten out yet. (well in all honesty, he did get out once, but that involved a perfect storm of chairs and broom handles and luck, and tiny devious ninja skills. We confiscated the ninja tools (broom handle) and he was back to being foiled. House, thy name is Alcatraz.

Thank you for making a product that is as simple as it is effective.

  • Simple and effective
By GuinnessChris on 27 December 2016

These are a really simple mechanism for locking a door. My kid got to where he could open doors and this was a simple way to keep him in or out. As they attach to the inside of the door jam, I did have one interior door that it didn't work on because there wasn't enough space between the door and jam. I also had concerns about it accidentally flipping locked with me outside, so I put a magnet on the ham to hold it in place while in the unlocked position. Mine are cheap ugly magnets, but they have smaller, rare earth magnets that look much nicer.

  • Great for Escaping Toddlers
    By L. Fox on 29 January 2013

I put this up high on my door to help with our "escaping toddler" problem (2-year-old twins who have learned to unlock the deadbolt and let themselves out). I love it. It's secure. They can't reach it, and it only involved drilling into the inside of the door jamb. So when we remove it, we won't have unsightly holes to fill on the outside of the jamb. Also, it's very discreet and not very noticeable - a huge plus for me, because I didn't want some ugly, black lock in addition to the door knob and the deadbolt.

The only reason I took off a point is that I stripped one of the screws using a hand screwdriver. I'm not that strong, so I would hope that these screws were a little tougher than that.

  • Works on French Doors
By American Solutions for Business on 04 April 2017

I bought these to use on French doors in our playroom. Since they are French doors, I installed the locks on the top of each door. It works to keep the doors secure, and prevents my kids from unloading the closet every chance they get. Since I had to install them on top, there's a small gap between the lock and the door, but it still works fine. This also allows the lock to stay flipped up when not in use.

I would've given it five stars, but the locks are a little hard to open close quickly. We also installed on the typical way on another door and it works great.

The best part is they are barely noticeable and quite discreet.

  • By no means is this
    By Alix V on 26 March 2017

I had these in the house on the doors growing up as a kid and they were the first thing that popped into my head now that I have a family of my own, but BY NO MEANS is this the best option to stop someone coming into your house. It may prevent some kids but if someone is trying to get in they will get in. Then why did I buy them? For one it gives a sense of security for just in case someone tries and they think someone's hand is on the door if the door knob turns but can't push the door open. Maybe they might get scared that they were caught and run away. Second reason is of someone does bypas a deadbolt and they try to open the door not knowing this was on it... well there is much more noise and if they want to actually get through then there is a hell of a noise. "Noise" being key it will give you enough time to prepare before it's too late.
