When closed, the Bullet Space Pen is the perfect size to carry in your wallet, pocket, purse, car glove box, organizer or toolbox. When open it's a full sized, evenly balanced writing instrument. The original Bullet Space Pen was conceived in July of 1948. Paul Fisher was soon machining a new pen design shaped from solid aluminum. It became our first Fisher ball point pen, the #400 Bullet Pen, and arguably the most popular pen of the twentieth century. This pen is now all brass with a raw brass finish. Cited as an outstanding example of industrial art, the classic design of the Fisher Bullet Pen has been exhibited for years in the New York Museum of Modern Art. The Bullet's timeless styling has been the topic of many art books and magazine articles. Often imitated but never duplicated, the Fisher Bullet Space Pen continues to be our most popular pen.

  • Once a Fisher, always a Fisher
By Spencer on 12 July 2016

I love my Fisher space pen for many reasons.

One, it writes ALWAYS. On painted metals, wood, cold/frozen objects, smooth and textured plastics, upside down... anywhere. Two, it is made in the United States of America, so by purchasing you help employ a distant cousin. Three, it is made of SOLID raw brass that will develop a nice patina. I don't care what else you read on here about it being "plated" brass. I actually shaved a portion of the inner pen away to see if it was solid. It. Was. Go America. Four, I accidentally put this pen through the laundry and it still works after some minor maintenance. Take that Communism.

This pen will live longer than you and look better when it finally dies. And best of all, it carries my stamp of approval.

  • Tip: Rubber grommet will keep it in your pocket.
By Blue Canoe on 06 May 2015

I've owned more of these than I'd like (see below), but this is my favorite one. The way the brass ages over time is really cool.

So yeah, problem is these little guys are escape artists if you're carrying them in your pants pocket. They're so smooth-sided they slip out and disappear. Really annoying.

I'm here to share a tip I've discovered that fixes this problem. Might not be best for everyone, but it's worked REALLY well for me, and it was a cheap/easy thing to do.

I added a rubber grommet around the pen itself. It cost me about a buck at a local hardware store. The rubber "ring" provides a nice amount of grippyness to the inside of the pocket, and the pen ends up not sliding around. It's also positioned where it doesn't get in the way of writing. I'll attach a couple pics.

  • Couldn't be happier...
By Amazon Customer on 05 August 2018

I'll start by saying I don't usually leave reviews, unless a product is REALLY good or REALLY bad...
I've had the pen a couple of weeks. I waited to submit my review, because being raw brass, I wanted to see how the patina turned out. All I did was carry it in my pocket every day, and leave it on my dresser with the cap off (I guessed this would make it patina more evenly, but not sure) at night. Of course, riding in my pocket with my keys and pocketknife, it's subject to scratches, but none are really noticeable. Let me tell you, this thing is GORGEOUS! It has a nice even patina, looks just like an old bullet casing. It's why I went with raw brass, I don't have to worry about scratches or anything flaking off.
The pen writes really well. First time, every time, and consistently. Have I written with pens that wrote better? Sure, even some cheaper pens. But those don't write in all conditions like this one. And yes, to the best of my ability, I've tested their claims (though I haven't been able to get to outer space yet.)
This pen disappears in my pocket, which to me, is its real value. Like a gun or a knife, or most other EDC items, the best one is the one you have on you when you need it.
Bottom line: I highly recommend this pen, but I would only recommend it in raw brass. I can certainly believe the reviews of other finishes that complain of their lack of durability when carried in a pocket.
And finally, I paid for this pen with my wife's own money, and have not received a discount, kick back, free haircut, or any other compensation for this review.

  • Had it looking like an artifact the very first day!
    By Anthony P. on 13 September 2018

So unlike many of the lesser intelligent buyers of this pen, I selected it specifically because it is unfinished raw brass. I have been carrying a space pen now, every day of my life, everywhere I go, for over 15years. It is by far one of my favorite possessions and the best pen I have ever used. I always had black, but was intrigued by its solid brass construction. Finally I ordered the raw version, with plans to expedite the patina process chemically. Being an experimental archaeologist, I knew just how to do this, but I'm not going to share due to the dangers of both the process. I will say that it worked perfectly, and here, I present to you my beautifully antiqued Fischer Space Pen. I absolutely love it and have received many compliments on it from all walks of life. If you like new, "perfect" things, do not buy it. If you have an appreciation for items of yore, this pen is for you! The pen will tarnish without any work, it just takes longer. I love the fact that everytime I use my pen, it is new, as in the finish has changed slightly, something new for me to inspect and appreciate, as well as the unyielding performance that is the Fischer Space Pen!

  • Good Looking Patina
By Alex on 04 August 2015

Of course, it works great just like all of the other bullet space pens. The raw brass finish is great, but not for people who like to keep their pens shiny. After only a couple days it started to develop a patina and looks pretty cool in my opinion. I put a black clip on it (ordered separately from amazon) as soon as I took it out of the box. The clip now has a sort of border around it where the patina fades to the original polished finish of the brass.
