  • You don't need a self-cleaning brush - in fact they don't work as well
    By User425 on 05 October 2017

The closer together the bristles are on a slicker brush, the better. Self-cleaning brushes by their very nature require the bristles to be further apart, which kind of defeats the purpose. The way to clean this is to push it the other way on your pant leg when you are done with the dog; that way the hair is pushed to one end of the brush with one end sticking up and it is easy to peel off without touching the sharp bristles. NOTE: The bristles are very thin *sharp* bristles! Use this (and any other slicker brush) FLAT on the dog. Don't buy a larger size than you need and you won't be tempted to use the edge to get the "nooks and crannies". I wouldn't use a slicker brush near the dog's sensitive areas anyway. Four rather than five stars because I don't "love" it. I want to buy a slicker brush with coated bristles but I couldn't find one on Amazon.

  • My longhaired doxie loves this
    By Ambre P on 19 August 2019

I have 3 of this type of brush and this is the first m doxie doesn't run away from. He loves this and will lean into my strokes. Longhaired doxies have fine curly/wavy hair that can mat together. Because they have VERY sensitive skin I can't wash him as often as any other dog I have had (including a bichion frisie) maybe every 3 or so months or his skin flakes and itches him terribly....and I have special shampoo for him. The brush helps me keep him clean and nice looking.

My tricks are to carefully to get the dog used to the brush by cautiously rubbing on favorite spots like under the collar, chin and head where he REALLY likes to be scratched, before I use it elsewhere. My dog is a rescue from an abusive owner, who beat him with a hairbrush among other things. So this shap is not a trigger for him, and while he is nervous he doesn't hide like he will with others.

i find the handle is WAY to thick to be comfortable for me, but I do like the shape with a larger notch midway down helps to hold it....but its not comfortable for me.

But again as my dog loves it like no other brush...its my favorite so far with this dog.

  • Works great!
    By CHRISTINE B. on 16 March 2019

I love this brush. I have a coated German Shepherd. We live in a dry climate so when I brush her long coat, the hair would stick to any piece of clothing I was wearing. I couldn't hardly get it off my clothes. This brush may not pull quite as much hair as an undercoat rake but it holds onto the hair so I just need to pull it off the brush (instead of my clothes). This is perfect for more delicate areas like her head, face, ears, armpits, legs and chest. I use the bigger square slicker for her back, butt, sides and tail.

  • Useful, but not for animals.
By Abby Weaver on 04 September 2019

I bought this to use for brushing out yarn on crochet projects to make them fluffy. It works wonderfully for that, but under no circumstance would I actually use it on an animal. The wire bristles are very firm, and they are just sharp metal all the way down - definitely not comfortable for skin. They are also so dense that it makes cleaning the fibers out of the brush difficult, which isn't necessarily a problem for me, but would be for someone using the brush for its intended purpose. Overall, great for my purposes, but I definitely would not use it on a dog or cat.

  • Too spiky and rough for short coat
By Dolly on 19 May 2018

This brush is too spiky and rough for the majority of my Jack Russell mix coat. She actually got scared the second time I went to brush her. I can use it on her neck and back but I think I will purchase a softer brush for the rest of her body.
This brush seems like it would be ideal for a long-hair dog or thick coated.

The brush is well made however and seems good for the price. Just not ideal for my dog.
