  • The footbed doesn't feel right with my flat feet
By Rebecca L. Latson on 06 June 2017

I really like Keens, and the two other pairs of Keen boots I own (different models) are so comfortable. So it was with a great deal of disappointment that I had to return this particular style after receiving them in today's mail and putting them on. For those of you with high arches, you may very well find this particular model/style to be wonderful. For people like me with flat feet, I knew if I took them out on a hike, my foot arches (and my feet, as a whole), would be in a great deal of pain. The footbed in each boot has a slight, but definite, "hump" in it about where my foot arch rests. I suppose that means they would provide wonderful arch support for people with arches, but definitely not for me.

Oh, and like my other two pairs of Keens, this boot runs a little small, so order at least a half size up. My regular foot size is a 7 in office shoes, but for hiking boots, I always order 8.5 to give my feet wiggle (swell) room and to be able to wear thicker, more padded socks.

  • Very Nice!
By ShoppingInCT on 19 August 2016

Let me start by describing my foot type - high arched, narrow heeled and wider at the toe area. I usually wear a 7, but I always get sneakers in 7.5, I got these in 7.5 and they fit great.

They have a very supportive heel and ankle area. The style is cute, I also bought the Keen Voyageur Mid and while I do prefer the look of that shoe to this one, these have a better fit. They are slightly loose in the front, so they can be worn with a thicker sock.

  • Edges out the Targhee
    By L. McClure on 19 January 2017

I ordered the Gypsum Mid and Targhee II Mid with the plan to send one of them back. They were both so good I ended up wearing and keeping both. I've had several pairs of the Targhee low, but needed a mid boot. The Gypsum fits very similar to the Targhee (Keen advises sizing up half a size). I'm sort of in between a 6 1/2 and a 7 normally. In Keens a 7 is perfect. The Gypsum's insole feels the tiniest bit softer than the Targhee. The padding around the ankle is very comfortable and a bit taller. I have prominent ankle bones and this boot doesn't rub or bother me at all. I haven't worn them on a hike yet, but the first wearing was a marathon Christmas shopping expedition and they were comfortable all day. I've worn them in snow and my feet have stayed dry and warm. All in all, I think I prefer the Gypsum over the Targhee.

  • Love Keen boots!
    By Robin R. on 16 January 2019

First let me say I have multiple pairs of Keen hiking shoes and boots. I work for the Postal Service in mail processing and after 32 years of standing and walking around on hard concrete floors my knees and feet are shot! When I was younger I wore Reebok’s and Nike’s and different athletic shoes and after about 6 months of walking on the hard floors they would be totally broken down and a misery to wear. So about six years ago one of my sisters kept telling me I really needed to try some Keens. So I finally bought my first pair and haven’t looked back since. I bought these Gypsum mid boots because the older I get the more I need my ankles supported too though I do have some Oakridge, Voyager and Targee hiking shoes. I guess I have about six pair I rotate around. These shoes are built to last and I only bought this new pair because my feet just keep going up about a half size for some reason and it’s not the shoes it’s my feet because the size 9 I have had for about two years were starting to knock the end of my toes. This 9 1/2 is perfect. I also have wide feet and the mediums in Keens fit fine because they have such a roomy toe box. The only modification I make is I also change out the insole in every pair I have to my personal preference insole for flat feet. I just wish I had started wearing theses shoes when I was younger so my feet and knees wouldn’t be in the bad shape they are today.

  • Waterproof, like a rubber glove.
By jr on 13 June 2017

I slipped, having landed on the side of the rock, and knew I was going to be walking back with a wet sock. The mud was deeper and squishier than I expected. This shoe is some kind of miracle - the wet did not reach my sock, the mud did not stick to the outside as it should have. At the end of the day there was no evidence of having been by the river. I have never worn boots that repelled mud as well as these. I don't even bother going around puddles anymore.

My usual 8.5 was slightly small, and would have been too tight with serious socks. The replacement 9 arrived two days later and Amazon refunded me the same day I sent my return. There was no breaking in, these fit perfectly all around.

The blue color is a little weird with blue denim, but that's the least important thing to me.
