  • Would purchase again.
    By C. Wollin on 09 September 2017

I needed a pair of hiking shoes for day hikes. I have worn these three times with light wool-blend hiking socks and my feet have been super comfortable. The last time, I wore them in wet conditions and my feet stayed dry AND I had great traction. I wear a 9-1/2 to a 10, so I purchased a 10 and they are perfect. I also have wide feet and I have plenty of room in these and toe wiggle room too.

  • Grossly Insufficient for Demanding Hikes
By Tall Ames on 25 June 2018

First, I need to apologize to Iceland. I'm sorry I left my crappy hiking boots under one of your hostel's couches. I really don't know if I did it out of sheer exhaustion or some kind of subconscious need to permanently rid myself of their presence. Why I'm sorry can be boiled down to two reasons:

    1. Some poor Icelander had to touch them in order to throw them away.
    2. I was robbed of the joy of burning them when I got home.

I have met so many people taking advantage of Iceland's new WOW airline flights, and perhaps you're one of them. You're thinking that you'd like to hike and camp and experience Iceland's gorgeous mountains firsthand. You should! I just got back from a two week backpacking trip and the whole country definitely lives up to the hype. These boots do not.

Do not buy these and expect a pleasant experience if you're using them for rigorous hiking. Don't be me and go to a knowledgable camping store, roll your eyes at the boot prices, ignore the warnings of the experienced hikers, and hit up the Amazon app in the parking lot. Just don't. There is a reason that good boots cost good money, and that's because they are properly engineered to make your life easier--not harder--on the trail. Your feet are worth it, so skimp on something other than your boots.

    Pros:
    - Relatively affordable
    - Light, breathable

    Cons:
    - Absolutely not waterproof - on the Landmannalaugar hike, my friend and I both crossed a stream. I stayed on the rocks; she slipped and submerged her boot up to the ankle in icy mountain water. Guess whose foot was soaked? Mine. Her Danner boots left her socks completely dry. To be fair, I don't think the Keens are marketed as completely waterproof, but they ARE meant to be semi-waterproof. Worthless.
    - Terrible support - I felt every rock, every bump in the trail. My feet ached when we walked on the sidewalk in towns, too. No arch support. I had a limp by the end of the trip.
    - Cheap feel to the material.

This might work for easy hiking and walking, but if you're planning on walking 8-10 hours a day on rough terrain, you are going to feel like the world's biggest idiot.

  • but because I love KEEN shoes and returns are free
By Amazon Customer on 11 February 2018

I read other reviews saying these shoes were too tight/narrow, but because I love KEEN shoes and returns are free, I gave them a try.
When I first put them on it felt tight from the bottom of the foot to the top. I wore them a few hours and they relaxed, but only so far as to fit my foot, they never got loose. I took them on a trip to AZ, and hiked all kinds of terrain(river beds, mountain scrabble, dessert, and plain streets) even had an encounter with a nasty cactus(the barbs never got through the fabric or the soles). These shoes handled everything and felt awesome the entire time. I love them and will buy another pair when these eventually wear out!

  • But it was sad they had any warrant by this time
By Stephanie Franchi on 31 March 2018

I bought these boots in October being in Costa Rica. They were send to an US adresse and then sent to me to Costa Rica, so I understood I got them so much later. But it was sad they had any warrant by this time. I ended up wearing them just 2 months now, and there are holes wearing through the sides. Both shoes are ripping and it is just starting. The sole also began to fall apar a little bit.
These boots are very light and comfy, but I am disappointed about the damage because these are kind of expensive, and even paid extra for the shipping to CR for something I wanted to work out and last longer.

  • Already fraying after 3 months...
By Amazon Customer on 19 June 2018

I’m very disappointed. These were an investment in hopes they would last me for a while. I bought them 3 months ago and fell in love. I bought them for my summer internship in Yellowstone. When I first got them, I only wore them like once a week. I loved the lightweight feel, the style, and the traction. However, now that I’m wearing them almost every day, they are already fraying in the breathable areas. I can only imagine how they’re going to look in a month and as an unpaid intern, I’m worried they won’t make it through the season. These aren’t worth the money, a shoe of this price should last a lot longer than 3 months...
