  • Bright; Charging finicky, was hoping for more battery life.
By Mark my Words on 06 May 2019

    The Good:
For the size of light, it's bright. Brighter than previous blinder's I've owned.
KNOG finally fixed their attachment strap which would break after a few months. It was fixable with lock ties and Garmin mount elastic bands but still a hassle. Now the straps are interchangeable for size which also means they're replaceable when they inevitably break
It has the indicator light when it's low and a green light on the INSIDE of the strap (different than some other KNOG lights where the indicator is right next to the main LED) when fully charged.

    The Bad
2.5 hours on flash-solid mode. Was hoping for a bit longer. Presumably longer on pure flash mode.
Charging - I have 4 different USB charging stations with countless devices and cables (including several prior KNOG lighs) that charge without issue. If you plug the Chippy in, it won't charge. You have to pull it out about 2 mm and then it does. This is fixable with a small rubber band around the USB plug to keep it inserted the correct depth. But, again, does the consumer have to modify the device to get it to work?

  • Attachment straps fall off. Buy a different model of Knog light.
By mountainGirl on 17 October 2019

I've had Knog brand lights before. They are pricey, but are bright, the USB charging is super convenient, and the lights work fine. However this particular model has a really terrible attachment system. The straps easily fall off (while traveling- gone forever) because the attachment groove on the light is very shallow. I was lucky that the light fell into my bike basket (twice) so I tried to order the free replacement straps offered by the company. The downside to the replacement straps is that you can only get one replacement item. Having bought a set of two lights, I very quickly lost both straps. In the end the company wasn't able to process my payment for the shipping, so I'll have to devise some other attachment system. It's unfortunate. SUMMARY: KNOG makes good products, but do not buy this particular model, look for one where straps are not removable.

  • Keeps me safe on the road
    By Greg M. on 17 September 2018

I love these and rely on them keeping me safe from distracted drivers.

I have a pair of these for my road bikes to keep from being run over.
They strap on nicely to the bike seat post and provide a blinding flash to alert drivers of a bike rider.

I wouldn't feel safe and they won't save you from being hit but the indeed reduce the likelihood of it so do all you can in this regard to keep safe.
Also, I recommend a small mirror attached to your glasses so you can clearly see drivers approaching from the rear.
If they're crossing into the bike lane or right side, get to safety quickly!

  • Chippy vs Niner. Both are great little lights.
By Tim on 04 July 2018

We have a set of the Mini Chippy and Mini Niner lights. We have seen brighter lights out on the road, but our Blinders work great and do a good job of adding visibility from a good distance. Battery life, mounting and size are all excellent. The as advertised, the Mini Niner makes a slightly larger and brighter light pattern when viewing side by side at a distance.

  • Good customer service--product can't attach to some carbon fiber bikes, and battery life on even lowest setting is poor
By john m. rea on 02 July 2018

The customer service of the seller is excellent----and helped with both trying to avoid a return, and a return.

The fittings are adequate for a seatpost (back light) but very small for the usual size of carbon fiber front tube. If you plan to mount it on a front bar, it should be OK.

The battery life, even on the lowest drain setting (flash) is under 5 hours. This is fine if your use is a brief commute, with ready access to a USB port to re-charge, and your habits are meticulous enough to do that. But quite inadequate for a day's ride. The manufacturer's materials accompanying the pair of lights promises up to 18 hours at low setting. I gave it two tests before returning.

The lights are bright---as advertised. The fitting system is easy to handle and the lights are easy to detach (if you park in a theft-prone area.) The lights stay well affixed.
