  • Heavy-Duty Metal with flimsy plastic handle! Soaks your legs instead of the plant!
By Marcel vdB on 23 September 2017

My old sprayer was working just fine but the plastic handle broke off right at the point where it is thinned out by the rivet point. These plastic handles are a chronic weak point for these type of sprayer and the manufacturers know that very well. So, I was excited to see from the description of this item so see that it is made of "Heavy-Duty Metal" and ordered it. Big disappointment right out of the box, the same old plastic handle held on by the flimsy rivet!!! You gotta kidding me, right??? You know they do that on purpose, otherwise these sprayers would last 50 years and you would never have to buy another one. This way, they have their sales for sure when the handle breaks. And it will, I bet you any money!!! I'm so tired of this. Why is it impossible to really get quality any more? After the initial disappointment of seeing the all so familiar rivet-affixed plastic handle, I resigned my grief, basically capitulating my hope that there is any better product out there. I tried it out. All of the spray functions but the soaker function work very fine as is to be expected. However, the soaker setting sprayed left, right and a big stream backwards down my legs!!! I just could not believe this!! Strike two on this sprayer. I use the soaker setting most often and they couldn't even get that right. I could have made up with the plastic handle since the price was ok and I knew that it would break sometimes and I would by the next sprayer. But a spray setting soaking the person holding it instead of the plant??? Melnor, something is wrong with you!!!

  • Broke after 1 use
By Sci fi Becky on 28 October 2018

Used exactly once. Wasn't dropped or abused in any way. The second time, water is spraying in all directions at the join of the rotating head to the body. There is a screw in the center of the head, which I tried tightening - no change. It's trash, after just one use. So much for Amazon's #1 best seller. I would happily pay more if I could find something that would last at least 2 seasons.

  • The best nozzle out there for the price.
By LisaLisa on 10 June 2018

After years of "bad" hose nozzles purchased at big box stores and garden centers, I finally found this brand. Bought one last Spring (2017) and it hasn't leaked yet even with some rough use. The other brands always seem to start to leak, not where the hose connects to the nozzle, or due to a bad rubber gasket, but at the control end or around the lever connection. Not fun to water plants and then have your arm and then clothing get soaking wet if you hold their nozzles above your head. Also the other brands are usually plastic and the handles break. I have gone through probably 30 different brands with none lasting longer than a year. This nozzle is STILL GOING STRONG just like it's brand new. I bring my nozzles into the garage for the winter and this is the only one that is still working with no leaks. It's also got an AWESOME stream with the jet spray which I love. So I bought THREE more and also the front trigger sister nozzle from this brand. This version has SEVEN watering patterns which is great. Highly recommend this nozzle.

  • Feels solid and I like 6 of the 7 spray settings
By DoItURSelf on 11 March 2017

For the price, it feels well made so maybe it will last longer than other hose nozzles. They always seem to fail when the spring mechanism rusts out or wears out and no longer causes the nozzle to shut off automatically. Since there's a lifetime warranty, hopefully Melnor will replace the nozzle without requiring mailing it to them if it fails. I would have given this a 5-star rating but the "Soaker" pattern seems pretty useless - most of the water falls straight down when holding the nozzle facing forward. Maybe the intent is to point the nozzle straight down with this setting - in that case, I'd give it 5 stars.
Update: Based on the explanation I received of the Soaker setting, I've changed to 5-star.

  • Excellent sprayer.
By Lars Sveen on 10 May 2018

This is a nicely ergonomic and solid-feeling sprayer. I don't like those plastic ones with 8 different spray patterns (those always break), just want this old-fashioned type, made in brass for longevity. The squeeze mechanism works great and automatically shuts off when released (you can also lock it on), which keeps me in compliance with water restrictions here in Southern California.
