  • Not magnetic - well slightly.
By Zachary King on 12 June 2018

The two stars indicate that this product at least looks as described - handsome unfinished wood. The three missing stars are for functionality. The magnetic seems to only be in the middle, leaving the heel of the knife to wiggle around, resting on top of the board. Within moments of being on, my Shun chef knife slid off onto the granite counter, tip first - my fault for trusting it off the bat. Even my 4" boneing knife doesn't feel secure.

I've invested way too much on my knives cost and care to feel chronically anxious about their falling. Going back to my trusty wall mounted rack.... I'd return it if I hadn't destroyed the pack g materials

  • Great for those with limited space
By Chris on 16 December 2017

Great for those with limited space. Or if you just want to show off your sexy knifes.

Knifes stick on it just fine, not sure what some of the reviewers are expecting. If I pull directly on a chef knife that's on it, the board will move with it. A paring knife even sticks fine. Scratches easily if anything scrapes against it. I had put bone scissors on it, and the hinge scratched it up.

  • Better than I thought
By Certifried on 14 June 2018

Board is great. Holds my most used knives very well, and it looks great. At first, I thought I would want something that would hold more knives, but only have my most common knives out is actually better.

  • Weak magnets, finish is hit or miss
By KEM on 06 September 2018

Weak magnet would not hold a heavier German knife and out of the three pieces of acacia joined for the one I received, the bottom piece looked like pallet wood. Already headed back.

  • Knives fall right off.
    By T. Turner on 23 July 2016

Pros - Beautiful wood finish. It looked great out of the box and I was excited to use it.

Cons - Magnets are too weak to hold an average chef's knife. Magnets are also in a single line down the middle, allowing even light knives to hang unevenly and to swing on the bar like the hand of a clock.

Review - bought this because it looked nice, was the size I wanted, was reasonably priced, and had a number of positive reviews. Unfortunately, it was an instant disappointment. Before I mounted it I decided to test it. The first knife I put on it was a very light carbon steel, nakiri and it snapped to it with some force, giving me the initial impression that this would be great. The second knife I put on it was a vintage 8 inch carbon steel slicing knife. It also held to it with some force but I noticed immediately that the knife only actually stuck in the very middle of the bar and would "spin" back and forth (the handle would swing like a pendulum, if that helps you visualize what I'm talking about). Just the weight of the wooden handle was enough that it didn't hang straight.

Third I put my Fujiwara FKM Gyoto on it. This is a lighter than average chef's knife. It slowly slid right off the bar. I tried this several times (making sure to catch the knife as it's my favorite knife) in several spots to make sure this wasn't a fluke but it wasn't. I didn't even bother trying any actually heavy knifes. If there were multiple rows of the magnets inside here it would probably be great but there is clearly one thin row of them down the middle and that just does not cut it, to use a bad pun...

If you're wondering why there are so many good reviews, as I did, it's because this listing includes several sizes, a few of which are a magnetic stand rather than a wall mounted bar. If you look carefully you will start to realize that almost all of the positive reviews are for that stand, not for the bar. Now I know, and knowing is half the battle.
