  • Hooks on the micro USB failed prematurely. Do not recommend anyone to purchase this brand.
By Matthew Fong on 05 May 2015

The hooks on the micro usb side are stuck inside the head and cannot latch on to the usb port on the phone. Therefore the cable is loose from the phone. I purchased four 6-feet micro usb cables from iXCC, Anker, Mediabridge and Monoprice on the same order on 18 Jan 2015. Mediabridge and Anker brand micro USB cables are being used in office. iXCC and Monoprice brand micro USB cables are being used at home. Each cable are being plug and unplug four times a days Mon - Fri. iXCC and Monoprice see extra Five to Eight plug and unplug cycles throughout the weekend.

As of 05 May 2015, hooks on Monoprice micro USB cable are failing. The other three cables are still working. If Monoprice is willing to pay for the postage, I wouldn't mind send it back for tor them to look at the failure mode.

Picture is taken at home... Four cable shown in the picture (Left to Right: Monoprice (Purchased Jan 2015), iXCC (Purchased Jan 2015), OEM Motorola cable came with Droid X (2010), OEM Samsung cable came with S4 (2013). As you can see, hooks on Monoprice cable are no longer in place.

  • This is "28AWG/1P + 24AWG/2C" - THE BEST CABLE!
By La Luna on 20 August 2015

I have been using generic cables to charge my phones and Nexus7 and they failed one by one over the years. I decided to try this one and my god, it's FAST. The short length enhanced the speed big time. This cable is 24AWG, which looks 15-20% thicker than many generic, free cables that comes with your digital device. As long as your charger is outputting 2 AMP, you will be charging lightning fast. Stay away from 0.5 or 1 amp, coz you won't be taking full advantage of this cable.

The first code is normally the specification of the data signal pair, which is normally 28AWG. "2C" means 2 conductors, and "1P" or "1Pr" means 1 pair. "2C" and "1P" are basically the same.

The important part is the second code, which is the specification of the power distribution pair. The minimum requirement is 28AWG, and the lower the AWG number the better. This is because lower AWG wire is thinker, and therefore the electrical resistant is lower. Therefore, charging with a "28AWG/1P + 28AWG/2C" USB cable is normally slower than a "28AWG/1P + 24AWG/2C" cable.

UPDATE: The white version of the same cable cost only $3 here on Amazon. May save you a couple dollars if you don't need to matching color.

  • As Always, Monoprice Does Not Disappoint, A Superb Quality 1.5ft. Micro-B Cable
    By MJNC367 on 28 September 2013

There is not one negative thing to say about this cable. As always, Monoprice delivers high quality. The cable is thick, but very pliable. The molded ends are well made and very substantial. The ends are gold plated. And when plugged in, the connections are very firm, to insure uninterrupted trouble free data transfer. In my opinion, at even double the price, Monoprice is the best economically priced cable you can buy. Their cables always exceed expectations on all points. This is a very handy length. At home or in your car.

Some sellers use the Monoprice name, then send you a poor quality substitute. It has happened to me. All Monoprice brand cables are in a sealed bag with their name, item number, and "Monoprice" is in very small letters on the male end of the cable. Without that, it's a fake. I would bet that if the low reviewers looked at their cables, they are fakes.
Some might say, "What's the big deal, it's just a cable". To which I say, if you're paying the same price for the inferior cable, doesn't it make sense to choose the superior one.

I have a number of Monoprice cables, and a few "not monoprice", Monoprice cables. I have never received a bad real Monoprice or had one fail on me. To be sure that that you will get a genuine Monoprice cable, consider my buying rules below. Since I started buying using this criteria, I have always received the Monoprice brand, and the excellent quality that the brand is known for.

This cable is also available in 3 and 6 foot lengths, as well as this one in White.-->

    Final considerations before Purchasing.
1- Having Monoprice in the title or "By Monoprice" is not enough to insure that it is genuine.
2- Look for: "SOLD BY MONOPRICE", and you will definitely get the real, high quality cable.

Thank you for reading. I hope someone finds my review helpful in making a buying decision.

  • Very reliable
    By T. Campbell on 11 June 2018

I have several of these. I used it in photography for tethered camera control so my laptop doesn't have to be immediately next to my camera. I also use it for astrophotography to run the usb cable up to the telescope mount & camera. I have no issues... all of my cables are reliable.

They are priced affordably enough that I bought several. I leave one in each of my two camera bags. I also maintain an observatory for a local school so I bought another cable to leave there (that one seems to get legs and walk away... I've had to replace it twice, not for reliability, but because it disappears.) I also keep one in my astronomy kit. When I travel with the cameras I always have one with me.

I think I've probably purchased six of these by now and haven't had a single issue with any of them.

  • Dollar store cords last longer
By Ember Petrichor on 12 March 2016

In my household, we seem to go through micro usb cords faster than gallons of milk. Sometimes they disappear but usually they either stop working relatively quickly after purchase or become loose and will not charge without directional pressure and something (duct tape) keeping them from moving even microscopic amounts in the port. After spending almost an entire week researching cords to find the best brand that would charge quickly, be used on android phones and tablets, would last longer than 1 or 2 weeks, would not cause "slow charge" or "low powered" charge connected to pop up on any devices and would not have to be duct taped into the port within weeks, I decided on these. I chose these based not solely on the high ratings and reviews on Amazon but also on multiple reviews and articles I found on the internet, through reputable magazines and technology sources. After purchasing these items, I'm now under the impression that every published article/review I read that was written by "professional tech insiders" was only favorable because of something they received from the company. Either that or I somehow managed to get the only 4 defective micro usb cords they ever made. Within 3 days of receiving them, the first cords micro usb connector detached slightly so that it could only charge with directional pressure. On day 4, the same happened with a 2nd cord. On day 6, both the 3rd and 4th cords succumbed to the same fate. None of the 4 cords charged any quicker than any cord I have purchased at any store. In actuality, 2 cords I literally purchased at Dollar Tree as extreme emergency short term backup cords in case I needed to charge something when stores were closed 4 months ago, not only worked better than these monoprice cords, but are being used on a daily basis and have been for weeks now to charge a tablet!!! I am beyond disappointed and disgusted by this product and will never purchase it again. I could've purchased 30 micro usb cords from the dollar store for the amount of money I wasted on these 4 cords.
