  • IS YOURS DEFECTIVE - no it’s not! Read this FIRST!
By Kelly on 23 July 2019

A lot of people said their collars were defective and provided proof with pictures showing it was “not a martingale” collar. And to be fair, this product does not come with any pictures or instructions to really show how to use it the first time so I can see how it can be confusing. So I provided pictures to show HOW to arrange the collar how it’s supposed to be, starting with it right out the packaging.

1st picture: this is an example of what people are showing “defective” and does not work. And they are right. If you use the collar how it looks right there, it would not work... you are using the wrong opening. SO

2nd - Separate the collar where my fingers show.

3rd - NOW put the collar on with the dogs head through the big opening.

4th - the collar arrives on the tightest setting. This picture shows the collar when it has been made more loose. Again, dogs head goes through the large hole, and now you will see how the collar can tighten when the dog pulls.

Hopefully this helps some people! It’s really a good and effective collar. I got one from the shelter I found my dog at and he outgrew that one so I needed the next size up.

  • Nice collar!
By Sarah Anderson on 25 June 2017

I went through probably 4-5 different collars for my pup, before we found this one. It fits perfectly and never slips off (once adjusted to the right size). I really like that the material seems relatively soft (as opposed to some others that are so stiff that they seem like they would be uncomfortable). I also like that it has a little plastic piece on it to hang tags from rather than hanging them from the D ring. It helps cut back on some of the noise.

The only issue I had with the collar was around the edges where it is sewn together. Most of the edges seemed kind of sharp. It felt like it was scratching my hands when I pet near the collar, although it never seemed to bother my pup. After a few days, I took a lighter and melted down all the edges a little. Problem solved. I've added some pictures to illustrate the area where I melted it down.

We've been using this collar for about 4 months now and it is holding up great.

Note: Ignore the silver ID tag attached to the collar in the photos. That did NOT come with the collar.

  • The best collars out there.
By Stephanie on 18 November 2016

I bought 3 collars of Petsafe, in size Medium for all 3 dogs that are under 70 lbs and it fits them each perfect. I order from here and Chewy.
One thing in common about all 3 of my dogs (2 Pit bulls, 1 Greyhound/Shepherd mix) is that they have small faces and wide necks.
Normal collars they can slip out, or back out of.
The Martingale Petsafe collar they call a 'NO SLIP COLLAR' because they can't slip out of the collar when leashed.
The Animal Shelter I Volunteer at uses Petsafe Martingale collars for every Medium to Large dog, because it is such a good brand and you don't have to worry about losing a dog when you take it for a walk.
I recommend the 1" COLLAR not the 3/4. In my experience, the 3/4 with bigger dogs folds up and just doesn't work as well.
****Also please do not leave your dog unattended at home alone with this collar on.*******
Take it off your dog when you come inside. I've heard it can be a strangulation problem.

  • Will not stay adjusted, gets loose very quickly. Disappointed. Not worth it.
By Dawn in NorthTx on 18 January 2018

This collar did not work for us. When we first brought our dog home from the shelter she would pull backward against her leash and collar. We have used martingale collars to prevent her from pulling our of her collar. This collar is sturdy and has good solid metal hardware, but it will not stay adjusted! Martingale collars are all highly adjustable - that's a good thing, but this collar will not stay adjusted! It gets loose very quickly (like within a few hours) and then sits really low on the neck. If you let it go for a day (because you are tired of trying to keep it adjusted) it will end up sitting at the dog's 'shoulders'. Yes I ordered the right size for my dog. Great price, but SO not worth it. I ordered a different collar, EzyDog Check Mate which so far is much better than this one was. Disappointed.

  • The only collar that can save your dogs life.
By Brandon Mulder on 08 August 2015

These collars save dogs lives. I was walking down a on leash trail with my dogs when an off leash dog walking with its owner decided to attack my dog right at the last moment as we were passing by no indication no warning. With my reflexes I pulled my dog up (ouch a little for my dog) this tightened up on her neck and pulled her up into my arms and out of the other dogs reach so she only had a lot of slobber on her side instead of a bite. Her neck was fine not tweaked or weird or bruised or anything after this event I watched her for weeks to make sure. I truly believe that if I had a buckle collar on she would have slipped out of it and would have gotten a bad bite from the aggressive dog. My dog also has a walking harness and she can slip out of that if I pull up on it (simulating the dog attack) we've tested it to see which is more safe for her and walks and the collar wins every time.

I volunteer at a shelter and we use these to walk our dogs in the only field walking space we have next to a very busy road and they truly save dogs lives by preventing all dogs from being able to slip a normal buckle collar. We use these for our tiniest chi to our larges pit-bulls and each one is safe. We do not use these as choke walking training collars we use either EZwalks or Gentile leaders in addition to these for walking behavior. These are very safe durable lovely collars for walking I highly recommend these collars they're gentle they don't choke because they only tighten around the neck if the dog is trying to pull or slip out. They get tight around the neck so the dog's head cant slip through and everybody is safe unharmed and happy.

Please be aware you should never use this collar if you plan on sending your dog to a doggy day camp or other place where you have unsupervised play with random dogs get a cheap buckle collar for that and this for your walks. The D ring that pulls the neck can get grabbed by other dogs and cause your dog to choke and if it's too tight they can loose air. Only use these collars when you are walking and are close by in play groups where you can get involved to prevent collar biting and pulling during play. I do not leave these collars on my dogs when they are in the home I use them exclusively for walking the park and when im out and about and can supervise my dogs play and stop collar biting.
