  • Beware this shoe!
By Jon Storck on 23 February 2015

I paid $76 for these shoes. I am a retail manager, who walks a lot in the store. The shoes look good, feel good on my feet, BUT I bought the shoes on Jan. 13th. It is now Feb 21st. I will attach a picture of the bottom of the shoes. The entire sole split wide open, making them totally un-useable! The return time has elapsed, on Feb 13th. $76 for 39 days! I would be vary wary of buying these shoes! I will not buy them again, nor that brand if this is the quality I can expect!

  • Falling apart
By David G. Rettig on 04 April 2015

I have been a loyal Propet customer for years but this pair of shoes may change that. The shoe is failing apart. I contacted Propet customer service and haven't heard back. Clearly Propet does not care about their customers.

  • Not the Same Shoe I Bought 6 Times Before
By Paul Frandano on 20 March 2018

Comfortable, but of much cheaper--both as, I'll guess, a cost factor and, surely, in durability--than earlier versions of the same shoe, which I've been wearing for more than ten years and this, my fifth pair of black along with two pairs of brown, worn primarily as walkers but sometimes for casual dress at work. Three to four miles a day, from September to April (then Ecco trail shoes). After little more than a month, the heels are already rounding out. I'm very hard on shoes, particularly heels, and I esteemed Propet for their early 10,000-mile tread guarantee, which I never tested or tried to collect on. I was nevertheless always satisfied with the durability and comfort. I feared the complaints about the new version I'd read about in many readers' unhappy reviews would be so, but this isn't quite the case. It's still a comfortable walker, which I now wear with a Birkenstock insert (more or less a drop-heel orthotic) which the Propets, with removable inner soles, accommodate nicely.

Still, it's not the same shoe, and the price has creeped up a bit over the years. And that stench some reviewers howled about? Yes, I almost sent this pair back. It smelled like a chemical dump. But I aired them out for a few weeks on the covered back porch and the intensely shoe-polish'y scent didn't quite go away but seemed to have evaporated to about 10 percent and, after a month of continuous wear, has dissipated almost completely. (Noses don't wrinkle when I walk into a room.)

So I'm giving the new Propet Galways three stars and will monitor the soles closely and report back on any premature demise. I don't know of any shoe I've been as loyal to (apart from Converse All-Stars, which I wore as my one and only sneaker from junior high to my early thirties, more than 20 years, before the running fancy overtook all "sneakers") and I have no idea what I'm going to do if these new Propets don't work out. They've been unbeatable for comfort, wear, and price for a long time.

But I fear we'll not see their like again.

Update, 2 Jan 2019: after about five months of wear, he heels are nearly shot, and portions of the soles are flat. The uppers remain in near-pristine condition. Consequently, I've docked the shoes an additional star. The soles are garbage - I'd worn this shoe for years, and their durability had always been uncontestable, but no longer. The shoes also had that chemical stench others had complained of, and I had to air them out outside for a few days before wearing them in close indoor company.

I'd love to hear from Propét about what they're doing to remedy their product and its new, stinky and cheap, materials. I hope to purchase again some day the Propét Galway shoe I wore for 10+ years, not this degraded, quickly deteriorating facsimile.

  • The sole split after six months
By Amazon Customer on 05 November 2013

They're lighter than the Skechers I had, which I like. I also like the minimum amount of seams overall. It's easier to polish, and snags less. There was a minor irritation on the left shoe rubbing my little toe. I stretched them with my shoe trees. So far, they're okay. I'll know more in the days ahead, and may update this review.

Now after owning and wearing the shoes for six months with very little wear on the soles, lo and behold, I put them on this a.m. (5/1), and the sole on the left shoe split right at the ball joint completely from side to side, where the shoe flexes. Of course, now it is too late to return them, and they're irreparable. I had the Skechers for several years and wore the insole and soles out before I dispensed with them. I definitely would not recommend them.

  • I generally get a good 2 years out of each pair and in snowy
By HH on 13 October 2017

I am incredibly loyal to this shoe. I believe this is my 4th time purchasing these and they have been the only shoe I wear for nearly a decade now. I generally get a good 2 years out of each pair and in snowy, rainy New England that is a good stretch. I am only writing a review this time around because after having these for maybe 2 months now, this particular pair has become incredibly squeaky. Every step is marred by the sound an infant mice might make, demanding sustenance. The past three pairs I have owned have been blessedly silent and I have to admit that the thought of almost 2 more years of "kids shoes in the school gym" level noise from my poor innocent feet is not a thought I relish.
