  • Gorgeous
    By J. Estrada on 08 July 2013

I bought this lens primarily for sports photography and in no way has it disappointed. I had been using my Canon 100-400 but it was jus too slow, though I like the reach it afforded me for times when the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 just wasn't long enough. So I took a shot on this beauty since it was much more affordable than the Canon equivalent and haven't regretted it for a second. I have taken my best pics with this lens; the creamy bokeh this lens creates is just gorgeous; its also fast and accurate and I get gorgeous results reliably.

I have used this lens at the dirt bike track, auto racing track, and drag strip, and it has performed admirably every time. I just put in a rental order for the Sigma 1.4x extender for my trip out to Laguna Seca for the Moto GP, so I'll report back with how the lens responds to the extender. My guess is that it will be just fine.

  • Goodlens, Heavy but Good!
    By A. Sowell on 22 August 2016

I purchased this Used...., but I had to return it because of the weight, after having multiple neck surgeries I couldn't carry it around like I needed too! But it took really great Pictures.(A large Thanks to Amazon for helping me with the return!)
I was a little disappointed because it had to search for focus during low light hours,I tried other Sigma lenses(that were way less expensive lenses) on the exact same target from the exact same location at the same time as this lens, and they had no problem finding focus! But..... I didn't put it on the puter, as recommended by the seller...IDK

  • Sigma 300mm f2.8 is the Bokeh Master
    By Chevyt1963 on 07 April 2019

I wanted this lens for portraiture and it hasn’t let me down. Sure it’s heavy so you need to protect your camera lens mount by holding the lens to reduce strain, but the bokeh. The bokeh is smooth as butter.

  • Great Lens, but no HSM for Sony version
By themosquito on 29 April 2011

I purchased this lens after renting the Sony G 300 f2.8. Only after reading the reviews of this lens and owning other Sigma EX lenses that I have been very happy using. I noticed that the autofocus was pretty noisy and a bit slower than the Sony lens. The images this Sigma lens produce are great and nice smooth Bokeh. It works great with the 1.4x and 2.0x Sigma EX teleconverter, but I had problems with the A900 with aperture priority, with the teleconverters mounted, the camera didn't remove the lower f stops like when I had the Sony lens mounted...with the Sony 1.4x teleconverter on the camera with the Sony lens, I was only able to open up to f/4. With the Sigma EX Teleconverters in use, I could select f2.8 and wasn't sure if it defaulted to the appropriate next available f stop for the situation, so if I had the 1.4x teleconverter in use and the camera set to f2.8 would it meter for f4? I know this is minor detail, but worth mentioning.

As a wildlife photographer the noise created by the autofocus was too much and I had to return it. I just purchased the Sony lens and 1.4x teleconverter since it has the SSM. If it weren't for those factors I would have kept the lens and enjoyed using it.
