  • Not quite sure
By kwb on 17 November 2016

If this purchase was made, and there was NOTING to compare this prodcut to, then everything would be quite different. I could say that my expectations were slightly skewed. The color is a pretty good match. They are a bit long, but with washing they will probably shrink a bit. While the legs, thighs, and waist are a little snug that in itself is not a deal breaker. But then I haven't washed them yet. And as I previously stated, with nothing to compare them to all could very well be acceptable.

However, that is not my situation. I purchased this particular brand, and this particular style number because I wanted another pair, just like the ones I have. That is NOT what I received. The new pair is about two sizes larger (according to the tag) than the old ones, but (with the exception of the waist ALONE), the old ones fit BETTER. The old ones have more leg space and more thigh space. Not sure how that works. The new ones seem to be a bit stretchy quite unlike the older ones. They also appear to be about half of the thickness of the old ones, a major difference. They are also made in a different country.

So we have a new pair, that is thinner, smaller (although two sizes larger) and stretchy. This is not the first bad clothing purchase experience I've had with Amazon and I'm aware that they have many vendors. But how are you supposed to know what you will end up with when you order an identical brand and style number.

  • Great fit!
By Lawrence Fitzgerald on 04 August 2014

While the existence of vanity sizing may be up for debate, the fit of these jeans are not.

I use tape measure(that is very accurate) to measure myself and this is one of the very few companies that actually label their jeans TO THE MEASURED SIZE. I am a 34 in the waist and these jeans fit perfectly. I bought three pairs that all came in slightly larger than 34, but after the first wash, they all fit precisely. The jeans are very comfortable and have the right amount of leg room.

I used to wear Southpole jeans in college, but the store I used to buy them from closed shop years ago. Since then, I have struggled to find jeans that fit well and are labeled accurately. I am so glad that Southpole now sells on Amazon. Definitely worth the money!

  • They are very comfortable jeans, but the zipper failed twice. The Amazon Customer Service shined. I would give them 5 stars.
By Thomas McKeon on 27 May 2018

The jeans are good. Unfortunately, I needed new jeans because I had put on some weight. I like the relaxed fit . It was comfortable in every place but the waist. I put on another button since there was almost two (2) inches of extra fabric. When I did, the fly zipper kept falling down. Eventually, part of the zipper failed and I called Amazon Customer Service. I contacted Amazon Customer Service. They quickly replaced the jeans. The new jeans are comfortable and seem to be well made. My problem was a fluke. Both pairs appear to be well made.

Update June 8, 2018: I want to state clearly the customer service at Amazon was excellent. They helped me when I reluctantly called about a problem with these jeans. They were good enough to replace them without cost when I brought a problem to their attention. The problem is with the product themselves. Although they fit well and are great on first inspection, they are faulty. On the first pair of Southpole jeans the zipper tab pulled off in a few weeks. This had never happened to me before. Jeans are supposed to be rugged and last for a while. Amazon customer service was kind enough to replace them. The replacement jeans had a similar problem. While the tab on the jeans stayed in place, the zipper itself opened after a week or so. At first I thought that this was was a case of my having a weird anatomy which put too much pressure on the zipped. However, it became apparent that I was not responsible for the defect and the jeans just had a cheap zipper. Unless you have a perfect figure, I would stay away from anything made by Southpole.

  • Not the quality I used to enjoy from this company when they were sold at JC Penney's.
By Jon Chadwell on 13 March 2016

Not the quality I used to enjoy from this company when they were sold at JC Penney's. I ordered 4 sizes larger due to reviews here stating that the pants were running smaller than they used to. As expected the waist was much bigger, but I don't feel the pants were any more comfortable (baggier) for me ordering extra sizes. I am concerned if I go smaller I will be uncomfortable in these jeans (I certainly have a thicker lower body than upper). I might give these pants one more try at a smaller size (but not as small as my JC Penney SouthPole jeans), if only to avoid having to try on a bunch of pants in a store.

As for other complaints I have; the zipper feels like the junkiest zipper I've ever used but it is working for now. Also, the waist has a seam run across it that will rub my skin raw in places if I don't have a shirt tucked in. I gave these pants 3 stars but a large part of this is because they are so cheap. I'm certainly not excited about the purchase and don't look forward to casual Friday as much when I wear these.

  • Not perfect, but great price, good fitment, and decent enough quality..
By AFD on 01 February 2018

Bought the 4180 jeans in both grey sand and black sand at the same size. The fitment on the black pair was just a little tighter than the grey, and the grey's fit was nearly identical to older pairs of Southpole jeans I've purchased years ago (length seemed about an inch shorter, but should stretch a little over time). Quality still seems about the same (decent.. not bad, not great). The material has a nice feel and is light/mid-weight.. stitching seems okay. Biggest complaint is the absolute garbage-tier button and zipper they always use.. the button just feels cheap, and the zipper is very rough and cheap-feeling. I highly recommend slowly working-in the zipper back and forth to wear down the rough teeth a little.. it's still garbage, but it does get better (if you don't break it.. go slow!). All of my Southpole jeans over the years have all had junk hardware to some extent, though I'd gladly pay extra if they actually used something decent.

On the plus side, the pockets are now deeper than older versions and I love the grey color (hardly any one makes grey jeans). Right now, these are one of the baggiest jeans I could find, without going back to JNCO (even their tightest 20" pair are still a little too baggy imo.. shorts are great, though). All in all, not too bad for only $20 to $30.. and if these are like my older Southpoles, I can usually get a year or two of regular wear out of them, before they're totally beat. Highly recommended, but only if you can be *very* careful working the junky zipper
