  • One job. The needles have just one job. And can't do it.
By Just Jenn 2015 on 23 January 2016

Incredibly FRUSTRATING. I love the way quicksilver needles feel and knit. Like seriously love the smoothness. They make knitting even more enjoyable.
What gets me, is the horrible CRAFTMANSHIP. As soon as I got these, I CO 200 sts and just went and went and went then next thing I know, the cord is poking me in the wrist because it came OUT OF THE NEEDLE! I dropped like 30 sts before I realized it. Then I looked at the other needle and that connection was loose as well.
I was so angry I just set my project on the table and walked away. I will try to salvage it tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I've ordered a direct replacement. I'm am seriously hoping this was just a fluke.

  • May not be as expected.
    By KM732 on 12 September 2018

If you are familiar with these beautiful Susan Bates quicksilver needles (aluminum) be aware that these size 11 needles are plastic. The description says aluminum and the photo shows the needles I have and am familiar with. It is deceptive. I am returning these, but in searching for replacements I discovered in a description on another site that in the Susan Bates line the size 11 and larger are indicated as being plastic because of the weight.

  • What a disappointment!
By Kindle Customer on 14 August 2014

What a disappointment! I expect a Susan Bates product to be of good quality. However, this circular needle did not have a smooth join and it caught the wool yarn every time it had to pass over the faulty join. This made the mittens I was knitting (using the magic loop method) appear quite used before they were off the needle. I did try rubbing the join with wax paper, but it didn't help. I haven't tried the size 5 I bought at the same time as this size 6; maybe it's smoother.
As an aside in my opinion 36 inches is too short a needle for the magic loop method -- IMHO I should have purchased at least a 40 if not 47/48 inch needle.

  • Excellent needles with sharp points
    By Dr_Turtlemelon on 28 June 2013

I am currently using these needles to knit my very first pullover. I prefer them to cheap bamboo needles that I have bought in bulk elsewhere. I like them because they are smooth and have a sharp long tip, which helps me handle stitch issues more effectively (splitting yarn, picking up twisted or dropped stitches, etc.). I also think that they make a very satisfying "click" when you knit with them. I like these needles so much, that I bought an additional pair. I am a relatively new knitter and would recommend these only if you have been knitting for a few months. While I love circular needles, I think that the connecting cord may confuse the sweetest newbies.

  • My favorite needles
By Dixie Diamond on 20 February 2009

I love these needles, and they're inexpensive. What more could you want?

I like these better than the shiny aluminum Boye needles because they're just a hair less slippery, making them easier to hold onto and less likely to let stitches slip off when you're knitting in small gauges. However, they are still less grippy than most nylon or bamboo needles I've seen so they don't snag on fuzzy yarn.

The tips are quite sharp so they slip into small stitches easily. I have not had trouble (or, at least, no more trouble with these than with any other circulars) with the stitches catching on the joint between the needle and the cable.
