  • Does not push 4K@60Hz
By Nope on 20 October 2016

The product arrived quickly and in good cosmetic condition, but that is about the only good thing that I can say about this.

This adapter was bought to allow connectivity from the PC into to a Home AVR Reciever and back out to a 4K@60 monitor, allowing for easier audio and video switching. Before installing this adapter and a brand new HDMI 2.0 Cable to go with it, the computer and monitor had been connected directly via a DisplayPort 1.2 cable and pushed beautiful 4K@60 video and audio (though changing video sources took 15+ seconds), however once the adapter was installed (with the adapter properly mounted in a DisplayPort 1.2 connector at the PC and connected via HDMI 2.0 Cable to the receiver and then to the monitor, into HDMI-1, a named HDMI 2.0 4K@60hz connector) it was discovered that the refresh rate had dropped from the initial 60Hz to 30Hz. For diagnostics, the setup was rewired to bypass the receiver and connect directly into the 4K@60 Hz HDMI 2.0 connector on the monitor. No change in refresh rate was observed. All connections, bios and graphics settings pertaining to the connection were checked and were found to be as intended. To check to see if the HDMI cable was faulty it was twice swapped out with other HDMI 2.0 cables which were verified to be working at 4k@60. To insure that the DP1.2 connector at the computer was still working correctly the connection was reverted back to a directly displayport 1.2 to monitor connection and observed to be working properly with a resolution of 4K@60Hz.

It was therefore concluded that the fault could only have occured at the adapter.

    Notes about setup:

    Computer:
    Lenovo W540,
    Win 10 Pro 1607,
    i7-4900MQ,
    32GB Ram
    NVIDIA Quadro K2100M

    Receiver:
    Denon AVR-X1200W
    HDMI 2.0 4K@60 compatible

    Monitor:
    Asus MG24U
    4K@60 Display with 1x DP1.2, 1x HDMI 2.0 4K@60Hz, 2x HDMI 1.4 4K@30Hz

    Adapter: see above
DP1.2 Cable: a DP 1.2 Cable that came with a Samsung monitor
HDMI 2.0 Cable: AmazonBasics HDMI Cable With Ethernet bought specifically for this purpose

TL;DR Once connected to computer and monitor the received unit did not produce the advertised 4K@60, instead, it capped out at 4K@30. Don't buy this product.

  • Doesn't work reliably when computer comes out of sleep state
By HandyTom on 13 May 2017

Would rate higher if it were reliable when computer comes out of sleep mode. So far about 1/2 of the times that the computer resumes from sleep, this adapter is not found, and DL manager reports no display found, requiring unplug-replug of the USB cable. Have tried unplug-replug of HDMI cable with no result, it's clearly not being found when resuming, perhaps it takes too long to respond to the computer, but *ALL* other DisplayLink based products I have used work fine in this respect, it's only this one which is using the DL5700 that is problematic. I've been using the DisplayLink products for many years, and this is the first time I've seen this type of behavior. Going back if we can't find a solution.

  • Works just fine, but setup wasn't obvious for Windows 10 users
    By J on 11 March 2017

Works just fine, but setup wasn't obvious for Windows 10 users, you need to go to DisplayLink's website to get (at the time of writing) the beta 8.2 drivers (this was not reflected on the seller's website, the link is for an incompatible 7.9 drivers for Win10). Other than that the adapter works great, it's small and lightweight (I do not have a 4K display to test this with, yet).

  • Works like it's supposed to
By David on 30 December 2016

Bought for my laptop to bring a 4k monitor in to work that I was using with my desktop. Works like it's supposed to, but this page does not make it clear that it's only supposed to work at 4k/30hz (or maybe I'm missing it). I also tested it with a 1440p monitor, however, and it gives me 60hz. I only tested it on macOS.

Unfortunately not useful for me, however still a pretty impressive piece of kit.

  • I think it's doing something? But whatever it is, at least it is working.
By splashtop on 08 October 2019

Can't tell if it is doing anything better than the passive adapters, but as a mini DP to HDMI adapter it works as expected.
