  • Does it's job
By Nina on 02 November 2017

I have an evil 1.5 year old mixed pomeranian. The little bastard never stops chewing his leashes ever since he was a puppy. He chewed through 5 leashes until I said enough is enough, my wallet is crying having to buy a new leash every week that he will just chew through again. Then i came across this product... I decided to try it out! I've had it for about a year and as you can see in the photos i've attached that he still chews and pulls on his leash regularly...but it doesn't matter because this leash has indeed been chewproof. I see his teeth marks all over the leash but it hasn't ripped anywhere! The only issues I have with this leash is if you look in the last photo i've attached you can see i've wrapped brown tape around it. This is because for some reason over time the loop shaped thing there started coming apart and it's very sharp, it can easily cut someone's hand. so just cover it up and be careful, in conclusion I would say buy the leash!

  • Hardware failure! Beware!
By baxter girl on 26 March 2015

I volunteer at a large municipal animal shelter, and I was recently partnered with a young pit bull mix who had a leash-biting issue. I ordered this leash so that she wouldn't accidentally chew through the leash and take off while I was working with her. The first thing I noticed about this leash is that the snap hook that attaches to the collar seemed flimsy. I tried to add a carabiner in case the snap hook failed, but the attachment loop was too small. This little pittie was less prone to leash bite if I used an Easy Walk harness (which I highly recommend) which I would clip to her martingale collar for added safety. Good thing, because the snap hook disengaged from the collar on our first walk. I will add that she was not pulling on the leash AT ALL. I thought that perhaps I missed the collar when I hooked the harness, but the next time the snap hook disengaged from her harness, and this time I know that I clipped the two together. Reading the reviews, I realize that I am not the only one who has had this issue. I have used the collar and harness clipped together many times with my regular leather leash with a solid brass snap hook and have never had this happen. What good is a chew proof leash if the connections fail? I am returning the leash and will not purchase another from this company unless they change their hardware.

  • Very disappointed.
By Nicole on 15 April 2016

I was really excited to use this as a way to allow my dog to be tied outside a store however we didn't even make it out of the drive way as the cable came apart at the very first little tug. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that this was a defective leash and returned it for a replacement only for the replacement to have the exact same problem. Very disappointed.

  • We will always use these leashes.
By Bambi Pup on 20 April 2018

My 12 pound poodle mix might be mixed with a pair of sharp scissors because each day, as we're busy getting the 3 dogs ready for their walk by putting on their harnesses, he would always quietly grab a leash and slice right through it in record time. He used to gnaw through about one leash every week or two. We tried those thick ropes that are used in rock climbing. Our pup thought of that as a challenge and it just took him a bit longer to destroy.
These are our second set of VirChewLy Indestructible leashes. They are light and thin, a little stiff compared to regular woven material leashes. Try as he might, our poodle/shears dog could never chew through the steel cable, although after a few years of trying, he did manage to crack off the plastic insulation in places, which made the leash uncomfortable to hold, so we bought them again. If they hold up for as long as the first set, I won't complain!

By Amazon Customer on 17 February 2017

The concept is sort of good with this leash but in practice it didn't hold up all that well. While your dog won't chew through the steel cable that is the leash the plastic coating on it will wear away or be chewed away pretty quickly. As will the black plastic parts at the leash ends that cover the connections. Those went very fast. But the biggest problem with the lease is if it gets coiled around your hand. It's quite painful if you have it coiled there and your dog starts pulling at the same time. Not pleasant at all. It's gonna leave a mark. One other issue is that the steel cable starts to get deformed after a short time, too. If it gets kinked it's going to "remember" the kink and it will then be somewhat deformed, but still useable. In all I probably used it a dozen times or so before I gave up on it. It's pretty expensive too. I think I could make one of these myself with a few items from Home Depot and some stuff lying around the garage for about 4 or 5 bucks.
