  • Boot for life(?)
By Blethook on 19 December 2015

Arguably, they are the best boots I've ever had. Given that these are wildland firefighting boots, they have to be though.

I have both this classic version, and the lace-to-toe version, both NFPA certified. I only wear these for normal day-to-day activities, mostly walking & light yard chores. The classic version has soft toe, while the LTT version has some kind of celastic toe.

I think they will last forever. The sole & heel are thick, plus the 7oz. leather is unusually thick & strong. Note that these boots are unlined (I don't think they need to be given the thickness of the leather). For me sizing is as expected. I wear size 9D in Red Wing, Alden, Chippewa, etc., and I also wear 9D in these. I have heard some people find White's boots to run large, but for me they are true to size. You will have more toe room on the LTT version (seems to be wider & roomier at the front end).

I've had these for almost a year now, and they barely show any serious signs of wear & tear. The following are the pros & cons from my own experiences:

    Pros:
    1. Durable - heavy & thick leather, sole & heel. Won't be going to see the cobbler any time soon. The Vibram 100F heavy lug sole is stitched (using black Kevlar thread since these are the NFPA-certified version) & screwed.
    2. Comfortable - despite being heavy and bulky, they are very comfortable to be in all day. Surprisingly, I never experienced the so-called White's bite while breaking in these boots. The break-in period for me was gentle - nothing like breaking in Red Wing boots.
    3. Good looking logger boots!!
    4. Can be resoled - Though you won't need to do this often unless you're a wildland firefighter!

    Cons:
    1. Heavy!! At 3lbs each (for size 9D) they are the heaviest boots I have. However, over time I got used to the weight. I never run in them, however. If anything I am now "suspicious of light weight boots because in my mind they won't be as good as my Smoke Jumpers.
    2. With 10" to lace up, it's a bit cumbersome to put on & take off. But again, it's something that you'll get used to.
    3. Some people won't like the high-arch construction. Again, it takes time to get used to it. Interestingly I find the arch on the Lace-To-Toe version to be more subtle, more like normal-arch boots.
    4. The heavy-lug sole will collect mud

What's in the box - in addition to the boots:
    1. Nylon laces
    2. Leather laces
    3. False tounges/Kilties
    4. White's Leather dressing (small)
    5. Various tags

Overall, if you're looking for a pair of durable boots that will last for years, I would definitely recommend these!!

  • White's Boot are Great for me.
By Terry on 20 September 2015

White's boots are arguably the best on the market, to find them on Amazon was a blessing! I must stress that this is my second pair, and unless you know EXACTLY what you're foot size is, you're better to have White's fit you. I normally wear a 9 1/2 D, these are 9's. My fist pair will go back to be rebuilt once my new ones are broken in. Break in is hard, and takes some time, this leather is thick, don't be discouraged when it takes as much as a month to break them in. The "arch ease" is a blessing for me, I have high arches and these boots cradle them. I've had my old pair about 6 years now, and they are ready to be rebuilt, I expect both of these pairs to take me to retirement as I'm 56 now. White's are expensive but when you consider the first pair is 6 years old, and can be rebuilt, they are worth it in the long run. Cheap boots don't last over a couple years after all. I'm a maintenance mechanic in a hospital setting and am on my feet all day on concrete floors, I walk between 4 and 7 miles a day, depending on how things go. Hope this helps in your decision on whether to purchase or not. Amazon, as always delivered them as promised, and it was much quicker than ordering them from White's, just remember that they do fit differently than most.

  • Best boots I've ever worn...
By Paul Murray on 27 February 2016

It's like walking on baby angels. When you decide to purchase a pair of White's, you are making an investment. The fact that these boots are hand-made and 100% factory rebuildable is a huge factor. The arch feels like you have a roll of dimes under your feet at first and the boot is uncomfortable as hell for the first few days. Give it time, use Obenauf's, and WEAR THEM! Wear them as often as possible and for as long as possible while you are breaking them in. The only thing that will break these bad boys in is time and use. I had a few hotspots while breaking these in, and only developed one small (1cm) blister on my left instep which happened during a 7 mile training hike. Not too bad all things considered. The first few minutes each day these fit tight, and are a touch uncomfortable, but that goes away and I hardly notice I'm even wearing boots, it's incredible! You will notice that these boots weigh a bit more than an average 10" boot, don't worry, it's not hardly noticeable after a day or two. I would recommend ordering as small as you can, these boots are going to stretch a bit. If you have a local boot store that sells White's go try some on before you order. I typically wear a 10.5EE or 11D in boots depending on the manufacturer and I wear a 10EE in White's, so I was quite surprised. Amazon also has some outstanding prices compared to other places. The local place here that carries White's wants $479.99 plus tax and I lucked out and got mine on sale here for $288 plus shipping. HOLY HELL!!!! You won't find a better boot than White's, especially if you're a wildland firefighter. Keep 'em taken care of and these will last you a long while.

  • Wonderful boot!
By Misty on 15 July 2019

My husband LOVES these boots! He got his first pair in 1996 and won't wear anything else! Here fills them with as hot of water as he can stand then pushes his feet in them and wears them until they are dry to break them in. Speeds up that process a good bit.
